Trying to do a RUU back to stock rom

Does anyone know why i keep getting the error code 140 when i try to RUU back to stock rom. Im running fresh rom, and everything seems to be going well till it stops and says error 140, something about bootscreen. I have flashed custom bootscreens in the past but i dont know if that has anything to do with it.

Let us know and also make sure you have the HTC drivers on your PC, and make sure you have the latest HTC Sync

i received the same error i had latest update stock rom and tried to switch back to 2.27.651.5 but kept getting error code 140 saying the ruu software was not up to date with the phone.

Go here and grab the Android 2.1 RUU executable and HTC Sync: HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC Hero? (Sprint) - Downloads .

Install HTC Sync and then run the Android 2.1 RUU executable and follow the instructions. Sometimes you have to run it twice to get it to work right.

You could try what I did - recover to "H-BOOT" screen (Volume Up - Power Off), then RUU. Good Luck

You can find a flashable .zip of the RUU here: [RUU] Official 2.31.651.7 in ZIP Format, Flashable from Fastboot - xda-developers

You flash it through Fastboot without having to connect your phone to the computer or use the RUU program. See if this helps.
