Trying to get Foxi hot spot to work with dongle

Hello. I am new to this so please excuse me if i sound idiotic. I have a HTC Rezound smartphone. I just downloaded the foxfi app to my phone. What im trying to do is use foxfi to connect my blu-ray dvd player(Samsung BD-P1600) so i can watch netflix on it. I have the Rosewill RNX-N1 dongle connected to my blu-ray dvd player which is like an antenna that picks up wifi signals. For some reason the dongle cannot connect. I also tried to see if someone else can use my hotspot with there phone but they cant seem to connect to it as well. I think it may be something with the foxfi app im not doing right. Oh and i have also downloaded the foxfi ad on. Please help.

IIRC, Foxfi doesn't work properly with the Rezound... Best to root and use WiFi Tether, or just flash a decent custom ROM with it built in.

Thank you very much for your reply acejavelin. I'll go and investigate if the rezound has trouble with foxfi. Can you please clarify how to root and use WiFi Tether?

There are guides on every major Android forum site on how to root, the Rezound is a typical Verizon HTC device... You need to install ADB/fastboot on a Windows 7/XP/Vista or Mac computer and the latest HTC drivers (Windows 8/8.1 is not supported), unlock the bootloader via HTCdev.com (which will factory default the phone), then using fastboot flash in TWRP or CWM Recovery. Once that is done you use the custom recovery to flash the latest SuperSU, boot up install BusyBox from the Play Store.

One thing to keep in mind with all the guides, they are pretty dated, and recommend the use Amon Ra recovery. This is no longer a recommended recovery to use with the Rezound, but substitute ClockWorkMod Recovery or TWRP 2.6.3.0 in place of Amon Ra.

There is no known way to do WiFi tethering on a stock, unrooted ROM in the Rezound, outside of the Verizon app, which will result in a fee. This question has been asked and answered repeatedly.

Wow at a glance this looks like a pain and im seriously thinking of just not even going there. So pretty much what your telling me is that i have to hack the phone?

I guess if that is what you want to call it, but the process is well documented and tested, but not idiot-proof (not implying anything with that comment, just a warning).

Many Rezound users run custom ROMs, from ICS, JellyBean, and even KitKat, with full WiFi Tethering, full Google Now, and dozens of more features and customizations, with no issues. It isn't difficult, but you have to do your research. XDA's Rezound forums are probably one the best ones for this information and have access to lots of information. I have done probably 10 different Rezounds successfully and used over 30 different ROMs with no issues, and the developer community is very strong for the Rezound.

It is your call though, I am not trying to sway you either way. There is a lot of potential in the Rezound, but the more you "hack the phone" there is a possibility of things going wrong.

No, this is not what you need... note the title:

Plus, if you read the thread you will see that it is not needed, and actually doesn't work.

All major ROMs for the Rezound include WiFi Tethering built in (that is free, just uses your data)... here are a few examples of the larger distributions:

Evervolv (KitKat 4.4.2)
CyanogenMod (mode versions from CM9-CM11)
CarbonROM (JellyBean and KitKat)
LiquidSmooth
PACman
Tachyon
MIUI
EclipticRez

All of these ROMs include tethering built in with no additional software components needed.

I will reiterate, there is no way to get free wireless tethering in a purely stock ROM on the Rezound. This is because Verizon had code written into the operating system to prevent any third party tools from doing this... On a stock ROM that is rooted, the major tools know how to work around this issue in some cases (this is hit and miss)... Custom ROMs have the Verizon restrictios removed. You can search all day if you wish, if you find a solution I am sure tons of people would like to know, because no one has found a working solution yet.
