Trying to Root But Getting Error Msgs

I have tried rooting using both the Regaw method and using the writeup from CCapasso. Using the Regaw method after Step 3 I get the error msg "cannot stat 'unrevoked': No such file or directory. Using the CCappasso method after Step 6 I get the msg:
[1]killed/data/local/asroot2/system/bin/sh.

I have downloaded the files and have them in C: drive
I have turned on debugging
I have unmounted the SD card
I have installed HTC Sync
I have phone on "charge only" when hooked to the computer

Anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks

Try another method. I know Andy had an issue with the Regaw method.

Also, is the phone currently 1.5, or 2.1?

I have 2.1 with.5 not.6

Try the Universal One-Click method of rooting. It is pretty easy and does not really involve you having to install drivers or sync your Sprint HTC Hero to your computer. Just remember, you will also have to flash a recovery image like ClockworkMod or Amon Ra to your handset before you can do a Nandroid backup or starting flashing custom ROMs. Do a search on these forums to see how that is performed or check back here and ask.
