Root Trying to root, need some help please

I have adb set up. I've downloaded the files from xda. The problem is with some of the files. Winzip won't open the PG05IMG_downgrade.zip, says Error: central directory not found.

PG05IMG.zip says failed to download because I cannot change the contents of the folder.

Both RUU files won't open. Same as the downgrade file, Error: central directory not found

The 399mb PG05IMG.zip opens fine as do the 3 exploits files.

Please help! This is my first Android phone and as with all my things, I have the need to tinker. I was holding out for a simple root method but figured I could do this. Not sure why these files are acting up on me. What am I doing wrong??

You are not suppose to unzip those files. They are meant to be installed as zips. There is a video on youtube showing how to root you I suggest you watch it.
 
I have watched it several times. So I download the files from the links using Winzip or another program? Any help is appreciated.

No just download them as you would normally downoad a file.(Press download, save as, choose directory, choose name)Do not unzip. Copy to your sdcard as a .zip file named PG05IMG. Then follow the instructions. DO NOT TRY TO UNZIP THE FILES, LEAVE THEM AS IS!! ONLY CHANGE THE NAMES AS THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY.
 
Ok, I've re downloaded the files. I noticed in the video, he has 3 folders on his desktop. I don't have those. I can find the files on my computer but when I try to add the contents from the exploit files to platform tools, it won't let me do anything with it. Winzip pops up and I can't copy and paste the files without extracting.

What am I missing?? I'm about to give up.

are you trying to use the ADB method? you dont extract either of the PB05IMG file's folders,but you do need to extract the contents of exploits.zip you can unzip it wherever you downloaded it,then move the files that are inside to platform tools(if thats where youre sposed to place them) or you can extract them directly to the platoform tools folder.

as far as having the files on your desktop,im not sure if that matters or not. you will need to have the 2 zipped PG05IMG(downgrade,and custom RUU) files,and the contents of exploits.zip in your platform tools. then start copying and pasting the commands :)
 
Easyroot is definetly an easier way to go if you are unfamiliar with the basic use of copying and pasting, winzip, downloading, etc...

Easyroot, basically does all the work for you however, you need to make sure you follow the directions, i used it and it was hit and miss on when it would work, i think it was because my laptop wasnt always seeing the usb ports correctly when the phone was plugged in, but it does work good, and dont have to worry about command lines.... try it out.
 
If your having trouble copying and pasting then I don't think rooting is for you. But if you can't resist, you should have DL'd 3 files and one of them will have to be renamed PG05IMG. Its really not as hard as you would think. I also used winzip to extract the exploit contents to platform tools and it worked with no problems. He does NOT have 3 folders on his desktop!!! Those are just ICONS of those 3 zip files he downloaded there. His icons are big, that is why you just "think" they are folders.......i just finished up rooting my TB, following his youtube movies. It is simple, but time consuming. Go for a walk, relax and then try again.......good luck!! :D

I use Windows7, and when i double click on exploit zip file, it opens a window with those zipped files. Just copy/paste into platform-tools folder.
 
Thanks for all the help. The trouble wasn't with cutting and pasting, lol. I ended up using DroidXcon's auto root and it worked fine. Thanks again.
