i'm running stock 2.1 and trying to root but when i go into rsd it doesnt say my device is connected...its just blank...what am i doing wrong? :(

did you install the update for 32bit or 64bit along with installing rsd? my buddy had that same issue because he forgot to install that update and the directions he was following skipped over that step.

well thats the problem..when i go into my control panel to check what the system settings are, it doesnt say if its 32 or 64

Windows XP
If you have Windows XP, there are two methods to determine whether you are running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version. If one does not work, try the other.
Method 1: View System Properties in Control Panel
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
Click the General tab. The operating system is displayed as follows:
For a 64-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version < Year> appears under System.
For a 32-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional Version <Year> appears under System.
Note <Year> is a placeholder for a year.
Method 2: View System Information window
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type winmsd.exe, and then click OK.
When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Note the value.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows.

I dunno ... I have been rooted since the old days and have never used RSD lite but, my friend was trying and trying then I finaly said try a different computer it cant hurt. And IT WORKED !!!

so maybe you could use a friends PC ... its worth a try :)

well thats the problem..when i go into my control panel to check what the system settings are, it doesnt say if its 32 or 64

right click my computer > click properties > its on the first screen

but since you said "netbook" I think you have 32bit home edition

Also, make sure you're running RSD lite as an administrator. Also, this happened to a friend of mine at work and he had to re-install the motorola driver, and had to manually set RSD lite to run as an administrator
