Has anyone worked out if it is possible to set one of the buttons on the bottom of the Desire to bring up the lock screen rather than using the power button at the top.
Only just got the phone 3 days ago but this is (sor far) the only niggle I have.

Thanks,

Well, if you go down the custom rom route, you'll be in heaven. They have that and a whole lot more (if you want it).

If you're into rooting, check out the 'unrevoke' method (search it in google), its a simple one click root which gives you super user permissions and allows you to install custom roms, radios and a whole lot more which will totally expand your android experience.

Check out XDA, its heaven.

Thanks - Is it really simple because Iam a novice (Although I did manage to flash my Nokia N900 and overclock the processor, but I did get step by step instructions from a very helpful guy on the Nokia forum)

Is it as easy as say, jailbreaking the iphone. Will it invailidate my warranty? My phone was bought sim free.

Cheers

If you root your phone it will invalidate your warranty, but as you have a sim free version it is easy to switch back to the generic software.
Rooting the phone is fairly straight forward using the unrevoked tool, as you have done something along these lines it does help.
Remember though you do this at your own risk, but it is worth the effort.

Dude. Snap!

You dont have to root to do this there are various Widgets/Apps on the Market which will do this - I use LockBot (free). But i think there are others too which i'm, sure a forum search will reveal.

Hth

An app called No Lock lets you wake the phone using any of the buttons, but it bypasses the lock screen completely so that may not be what you want.

no lock is what i use when i am at home, but turn it off when i am at work etc so it doesnt just keep unlocking in my pocket. depends on how you use your phone. hth.

Lockbot doesnt bypass the lock-screen which I prefer as there is less chance of accidental use when in my pocket.

I use WidgetLocker for the exact same reason, to use front buttons to wake the screen up as the power button is not conveniently located for this IMO

also lets you customise your lock screen with various widgets.

Thanks for your help. I have downloaded lockbot which seems to be the right thing I am looking for. But the home button skips the lock screen. But all the others go to the lock screen - can this be changed?

I have now downloaded "Widget lock" and that works perfectly!!:D

(Apart from a slightly annoying click, click, click sound when I lock the screen - can this be turned off?) Edit - now sorted - it was the stock sound conflicting with the app - turned off sound on stock annd left it on with the widget - now just one click sound!

Thanks for everyones help on this(particularly T
