Turning off 4G and other settings

If this is a repost, feel free to remove this thread. I didn't see anything in the Thunderbolt section regarding this setting change.

I was on the phone with Verizon to inquire about my 4G<3G<1X<no signal, and the tech told me that I could do *#*#4636#*#* from the dialing screen and it will allow me to turn off 4G and had some battery stats and other stats available. Just thought I'd pass this info along to anyone trying to turn off 4G and wanting to check other stats. Like I said, if this is a repost, feel free to post all the Back to the Future "it's not a repost", "use the search key noob" etc pics. I have thick enough 'interweb skin'....

Apparently this is used on the HTC Evo and it works for us too. Not sure why I haven't seen a post on this, maybe I'm not searching hard enough....

OH and I forgot to mention, you go into "phone information" and scroll down to the bottom, change the Preferred Network Type from CDMA + LTE/EvDO Auto to CDMA auto (PRL). I like the battery stats feature.

Actually, we have WiMax and you guys have LTE. You can cut off 4G with the EVO by using the 4G Toggle Widget that comes with the phone. Or you can just go under settings and switch 4G to off like all the other radios. I have all of my radio widgets on my left side/second screen so I can flick the screen if I need to cut a radio on or turn it off.

Never heard of the 4636. Don't know why your phones didn't come with a widget to toggle all of your radios on/off.

Yeah.. Its something with LTE.. Its not as easy to disable as wimax

I'm taking notes cuz this is crazy. I hope that they get LTE 4G figured out. I'm going to take a crack at it and say HTC was building a phone for Verizon. They had to rush and didn't have time to put all the cool stuff in to turn 4G on/off because HTC has only built a phone used for WiMax. They figured LTE couldn't be that different but the task turned into a ballbuster...lol

You could always just download the 4g LTE on and off and turn it off that way.

I'm not sure how I feel about downloading an App that does the same thing that's already built into the phone. One cool feature in those settings is it gives you the ability to see the temperature of the battery. Is 39

Isn't the 4G LTE on/off app just a simple toggle widget?

It's not built in, unless you do the above "code". That was one of the concerns about battery life, if you are in a spotty 4G area, would you get worse battery because of the constant searching for a 4G signal. I should probably leave mine on 3G for awhile to see if battery life is improved.

So you are saying you must do the code then download the app? I would think the app could attach itself to the radio like apps normally do so you can control the radio. Thunderbolt/LTE might be different. If I am wrong, correct me.

Negative, you enter that code and it gets you into a much deeper factory settings menu. You can toggle 4G on and off in the phone menu I mentioned in my 2nd post. No need to download a widget to do it. It's not as easy as a toggle switch, but at least you're not downloading any extra stuff onto your phone. I also like that it keeps track of battery stats and overall phone usage for you.

I don't think there's a true 3/4G toggle yet for the ThunderBolt. That app by TeamAndIRC is just a way to open the same menus that *#*#4636#*#* does or by using the 'Phone info' app. I also made a custom 'toggle' that opens 'Phone info' but I don't use it because it seems like I and many others frequently have to reboot after doing so, which ends up draining a lot of battery in the process. Besides, I'm too addicted to 4G speeds to spend much time in 3G anymore. Instead I just bought a couple of back-up batteries (1400 & 2750 mAh).
