Help Turning off data whilst roaming. Help!

Hi

I'm having trouble working out how to turn data off, whilst maintaining my call features when I travel. Last week in Tenerife I could only work out how to turn everything off, so I wasn't even able to text. I don't want it to automatically go online. What am I doing wrong? I'm going to Paris on Saturday and need to use my phone to call/text but don't want to come back to astronomical data roaming charges.

Thanks!

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Internet (uncheck)

As a shortcut, you could also add the Data Dashboard Widget to one of homescreens.

Long tap on a large, blank area of one of the home screens then

Widget -> Browse all HTC Widgets then scroll along to the one called "Settings - Data Dashboard". It should be option 51/71.

There's a good (and standard) widget you can put on one of your main screens - go to "Personalize" on bottom of main screen, (next to "Phone") - Widget - Settings - "Mobile Network" is what you're after - It turns on and off data whilst retaining phone and text message abilities

There is a setting specifically to prevent data usage when roaming:

Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Date roaming (uncheck)
