Help Turning off data.

How can I turn off data transmission on my S2? When I go to Europe I want to use GPS so that I can use Google Maps navigation and I want to receive phone calls.

However, data transmission for Brits in Europe is expensive, even with the packages that most providers offer, and I don't want to risk apps connecting and downloading data.

Airplane Mode presumably turns off my phone, although I see that GPS still works.

I've gone through the settings and must be missing something obvious!

Thanks.

Thanks! What an idiot I am! I'd completely missed that. I use the long press on the power button all the time to switch off the sound or put it in Airplane mode but just assumed that I'd need to go into the settings menu to switch off data.

I must have seen that option a hundred times and it's never registered in my ageing brain!

Thanks again!

If turning data on and off is something you want to do regularly you can get an app/widget apndroid so you can do this from a home screen
