Help Turning off Gmail audible notifications?

I want to turn off Gmail audible notifications so I go to the settings and the only option for notifications is the checkbox to notify in status bar when email arrives (which I want), however, when I click on sound & vibrate below, I can not turn off the default whistle. When I click on the whistle sound, it only brings up the window to find other sounds?

Thanks.

At the top of that list in /sound/notifications is "silent." Check that and be sure to individually configure other apps/widgets that you need notifications sounds for (phone, weather alerts, social networking, etc).

If I understand you and you're only trying to turn off your notification tone for your gmail, simply open your gmail, press the menu button (left of the home button) > settings > Sound and Vibrate > Sound > select "Silent"

Hope this helps

If that's the case, the setting for sound and vibrate will be listed in the menu under each account name, not the general settings area. ;)
