Help Turning off overnight while on charge

Lead foot

Newbie
Is there anyway to stop my S3 from turning off overnight while on charge? I use my phone all day so the battery is around 10%(ish) when I go to bed so I put it on charge and about 50% of the time my phone turns it's self off over night. I need my phone to stay on as I use it for an alarm. Is there any way to stop this? Is my S3 faulty?

Yes, it is fully charged when I turn it back on. When I say it's off, I just have the screen with the big green battry in the middle of the screen that is full.

I am having the same exact issue! The last 2 nights it has been turning off in the middle of the night. I use it for the alarm also and my son was almost late for school yesterday! Luckily, we found we could get him ready and out the door in 9 minutes! But then it happened again this morning. But I was paranoid about it and ended up waking up on time. However, I would prefer it be fixed!

You could try putting it in airplane mode in case it's overheating searching for a weak signal as charging causes a fair bit of heat too.
Of course you won't get any calls or txt while in airplane mode

I always put mine in airplane mode before I go to bed and plug it in and have my alarm on, I think it helps it charge faster, and well no one wants to be bugged at that time :P

I had issues where I once unplugged it and literally a second after it said the percentage was at 98%, it angered me so much I threw it on my bed and it bounced on the wall making a little nick :P I'm just gonna assume my battery is getting old even though it's only a little over a year old, but it doesn't last as long as it probably should either.

When I went to bed, I forgot to put it in airplane mode, but I did use a different charger. It hasn't shut off. I may try charging it during the day or over the weekend with the old charger, to see if I can replicate the issue.

When doing so make sure it's not on a day where you would need it as an alarm or actually need it charged in case you are planning on going somewhere, best to do it on a free day basically.

Why did you use a different charger, by the way?

Yes, that is why I was thinking this weekend, so I do not have to worry about my alarm. :-) My son used my regular charger for his Kindle. So I grabbed another charger, which is normally slower in charging. But I figured since it was overnight, it would be okay. So I am assuming it uses less power, not like a rapid charger. But I will use that one again tonight as I need the alarm in the morning. Then I will try my original charger on the weekend.

Cool mate let us know the results :thumbsupdroid:

Well, I guess those 2 days were a fluke. And apparently, no way to predict why it happened or if it will happen again. I used the old cord over the weekend and it did not shut off overnight. I made sure the phone was in the same place each time (on the nightstand, face up). So I just have to hope it does not happen again and keep my backup alarm on also.
