Help Turning off text prediction whilst writing email?

Afternoon All,

Something's been bugging me for a while and I can't work out how to solve it. Often, whilst composing an email (Gmail) I will write stuff that is not a word. The predictive text tries to make sense of it at which point I either don't realise and get a word I did not expect in the email, or I have to choose the letters I did type from the list of predictive text options, thereby adding it to the dictionary.

I don't really want to add things to the dictionary willy nilly like that, but can't work out how to temporarily turn off the predictive text whilst writing an email.

Surely there must be a way? My old phone could do it (not that it did much else, to be fair!).

Cheers,
Al.

I absolutely LOATHE predictive text.

Don't know if this is what you want, as it's not temporary and you have to do it all again to turn prediction back on, but:

From the home screen, Menu > Settings > Language & Keyboard > Touch Input > Text input > Prediction

I guess you could use an app like Tasker and set up a command to switch back and forth quickly if you want, but I just leave prediction off...

Cheers mate. Not what I was looking for, though :-( I was hoping there was a button or something on the keyboard that would allow me to disable it for a word. I find it pretty good in normal usage so don't want to turn it off. Oh well..

Cheers,
Al

Yes agree. Not being able to enable /disable prediction word completion from the keypad is a major aggravation. Only way out is to spell it out letter by letter with space.
