Root [TUTORIAL]Simple Gingerbread .602 SBF and Root Process (Updated 9.9.11)

boot into factory recovery and do a factory wipe reset
 
crap I dont know what happened but when I was doing this under RSDLite it says failed flashing process failed flashing process phone [0000]. Error switching phone to BP Passthrough. I had to do a battery pull. I'm trying it again. Please tell me its fixable and I didn't just brick the phone

edit: ok so I tried again and this time it worked. pulled the battery and booted phone into recovery. After I installed Bootstrap I went into bootstrap recovery and tried to flash Liberty3 v2.0 rom and it keeps giving me an error. Anyone know what the issue could be?
 
I cant get into recovery mode after sbf'n to gingerbread. I had the froyo crack before flashin to gingerbread and couldnt get into recovery mode before. Any suggestions so I can wipe cache and complete sbf?

PS Phone is super slow now and wont load much. I tried to get into settings so I can unbug and root but I cant load settings. Aslo tried to re-flash with same results...

Edit: Just did a factory reset. Re-flashed to 6.02. then root. So fixed. BOOM!
 
Glad you figured it out. If you continue to keep having problems getting into recovery you might want to warranty replace that phone.
 
I'm having trouble at the very end, this part...

-Phone will reboot, use your volume buttons to move up and down in the menus and the camera button to select. Back button will move you to the previous menu.

My phone reboots, the Motorola M comes up but it does nothing after that, it doesn't go into Recovery.

Any ideas?
 
Great tutorial, but I wish there was an easier way. I've been working on this for over 8 hours and still going through my 316 apps on Titanium backup one by one to reinstall.

I need it for work tomorrow, so tempted to restore my nandroid backup and just leave it as it was.

When restarting your phone, hold the home button and power key. after the flash of the screen, release power but hold home until you see the triangle with exclamation. hold both volume buttons and that will put you into recovery.
 
Merry Christmas. I returned my new Nexus. Reception issues. Back to my trustworthy X. Had wifi hotspot on the Nexus for a couple days. Got spoiled. Daughter is getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and a road trip later that day. So my goal is to root and set up wireless hotspot.
One concern is that after 140 posts, a lot of issues came up where people were stuck. This leads me to believe that it is NOT quite as straight forward as it would appear. It probably seems easy if you have done it quite a few times.
Second issue. It's Dec. 23rd now. Have the procedures been updated to a current status? If so, does this negate all the posts where ppl were having problems?
I am holding off until I am completely clear that this will be smooth without problems.
I am unrooted Droid X. System version 4.5.605.MB810.Verizon.en.US Android version 2.3.3 Baseband version BP_C_01.09.13P With this information. Do I still SBF or go straight to Rooting? If I need to SBF, do I still follow from step #1 in OP?
And finally, are there assumptions in the OP? i.e. He assumes we know what to do when he mentions the name of a procedure. If there are assumptions, could someone post what they are and what to do for them. Like, I am pretty sure the RSDLite is supposed to be on the computer and not the phone: However, it says "Unzip RSD Lite 5.4.4 and Install It" does not continue to say "on the computer" This is an example of what I mean when I say assumption.

OK. Maybe it would be more simple if I list what I think is an assumption and then if someone would answer that would be awesome. Thanks.

Select "..." Next to Filename box and navigate to the SBF file you unzipped and then select Open. (What is between the "..."?)

-Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot. (could it be explained a little further? what does it mean by unlock? and then whatever that means, does it turn back off automatically or do I do something else between reboots?)

And then for wireless tethering I can just search the forum and once rooted the forum will tell me how to set up a wifi hotspot? Can I have wireless hotspot without a custom ROM?

And finally, would it be better for a noob to just leave the bloatware on instead of messing up the update procedures? I read somewhere that it could just be froze and that would be better when it comes time for an update because it can be temporarily unfrozen.
What good links should I move on to after this Post has been completed? Thanks again.
 
I am in the same boat, I am getting ready to Root, but after reading all the issues that people are having, I am now not sure. I am running un-rooted GB 2.3.3 / .605 , I have downloaded, d3 easy root v7 and MIUI4DX1-11-9-ICS.

These are what I want to run. I'm not trying to start a which Miui thread, or another Miui argument.

I am presently running stock GB, with GO Launcher EX, ICS theme, and don't want to go back to anything GB.
I am new and have never rooted anything before, so there has to be an easy way for Noobs to get started.

I need the camera to work, along with wifi/3g/phone, since I use my phone for work. I also use a 32g MicroSd, will that make a difference, since I have read some ROMs don't like more than 16g MicroSDs.
 
Miui will work just fine for what you are looking for. I recommend you read up on install procedures. This thread is not for instructions on Miui installs, there are lots of those threads in the main root section and if you don't find one that helps, just make a new one.

When it says "unlock" the phone each time... it simply means to unlock it from the lock screen. Not necessary if I remember correctly, but it may be. And the "..." is the actual button in RSDLite that you press to then be able to select the SBF file you want.
 
I ran through this last night to get me back to a stock load so I can take my phone in the Verizon for a warranty issue.

Now I have a question. I'm missing a lot of apps that I had downloaded from the app store. I thought all those were supposed to come back up when I re-signed on to Google. Some of them did, but a significant number did not. For example, ChompSMS, my web browser, Angry Birds and several others that I can't think of. Can I get these back using my Nandroid back up that I did before I went through SBF?

I haven't re-rooted yet. I'm just going to wait for my warranty replacement (power button issue, unrelated.)
 
google will only restore your paid apps... the ones you listed are free. You will need to redownload them through the market to get them working again...
 
i got stuck after i did the factory reset on my phone i have petes one click root open and my phone is connected with the usb cable but every time i press root my phone it says its searching for my phone and wont go passed that am i suppose to activate it first? im on cricket tho so i dont think im suppose to activate but idk this is my first time doing thing followed all the intructions correctly to my knowledge... i did notice that at the top of the one click root it says motorola gingerbread 2.3.4 one click root but my phone was on 2.3.3 would that be my problem? please somebody help im lost

ok so i just tried it again from the beginning and now when i tried to root it my phone went to a different page that says "We're sorry, we are unable to complete your request because you have either insufficient space on your phone and memory card or your phone and memory card are unavailable"

If you don't follow instructions to the letter you will probably brick your device and have to start all over. This is easy to do as long as you don't jump the gun or freak out. If something unexpected comes up just ask a question and someone can help you. For the most part you cannot mess up your device so far as it cannot be recovered, but if you are in a menu that has scary stuff in it and you don't know what it is... don't do anything...lol. This is your phone and you take responsibility for it. This process will erase all data on your phone. Backup all your information that you need to keep.

So once you download everything you need do it all in this order....

SBF Your Phone
-Unzip RSD Lite 5.4.4 and Install It
-Unzip .602 SBF File
-Install Motorola Droid X Driver File
-Open RSD Lite 5.4.4
-Select "..." Next to Filename box and navigate to the SBF file you unzipped and then select Open.
-Power off your phone and then hold down the volume down button, camera and power at the same time (should see a small flash on the screen immediately, then release all and you will be in the bootloader)
-Plug in your Droid X to your computer's USB Port and let the computer recognize it.
-Select "Show Device" in RSD Lite if you don't see your phone already and then Select "Start". The SBF Process will take about 10 minutes (do not SBF if you have a low battery, I always recommend doing it with at least 80% battery)
-When all is finished your phone will power off and back on... unplug it and pull the battery. Put the battery back in and hold down the home button while you power the device back on... keep holding the home button till you see a triangle with an exclamation point, then let go and hit both volume buttons at the same time to enter Recovery. Use the volume buttons to move down to "wipe data/cache" press the Power button to select then scroll down to "yes" and press Power again. When it finishes (2 - 3 minutes) select "reboot" using the Power button again.
-it will reboot and take a while to do so.

Alternate SBF for .602
Aggie12 updated his Linux CD for the new .602 SBF. If you don't want to use RSD Lite then use his CD found here -> http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...table-linux-cd-soley-sbf-headache-free-2.html . After the SBF from his bootable Linux CD follow the instructions above in reference to booting into stock recovery and doing a factory reset. Using either method of SBF it is recommended (most of the time necessary) to do a factory reset to clean out all the old data from your system. If you don't factory reset you will most likely boot-loop until you do reset.

Rooting Your GingerBread System .602 (Will Root .605 as well)
-Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - [Download Drivers]
-Download and unzip ‘Psouza4's 1 Click Root′
-On your phone: Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
-Plug phone into computer
-Navigate to the folder you unzipped 1 click root to and run ‘MotorolaOneClickRoot’
-Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.


Installing a custom Gingergread ROM (This will work for 2nd-Init GB Kernel ROM's as well)
-Go to Settings -> Applications -> and check the box next to "Unknown Sources" and then press OK on the warning that comes up. (this allows you to install non-market 3rd party apps on your phone)
-Put Droid 2 Bootstrapper and the ROM.zip file that you want to install on the root of your SD Card (main SD CARD directory, not in a folder)
-Install Droid 2 Bootstrapper
-Open Droid 2 Bootstrapper and select "Bootstrap Recovery"
-It will request Superuser Permission, allow it and then select "Reboot Recovery"
-Phone will reboot, use your volume buttons to move up and down in the menus and the camera button to select. Back button will move you to the previous menu.
-Wipe data/cache (always do when installing a new ROM)
-Then select install from zip
-Select zip from sdcard
-Select the ROM zip that you downloaded and it will install (about 10 mins)
-Once you reboot into the ROM proceed to setup your phone as you want.

i was wondering if there is anyway to fix my android because i was stupid and done it on almost a dead battery and it died on me half way through
 
I just purchased a rooted Droid X but I can't get it to pick up Verizon's 3G network. Verizon says its an issue w/ phone (course I "forgot" to mention its rooted). Any suggestions?
 
try doing a *228 and running option 2. If it won't work or connect to towers the phone might have a problem.
