Help Two blank icons for every video in gallery

A friend of mine just got the Atrix. He has taken some videos and pictures with the camera. He has also copied some videos to the SDCard from his PC.

Here is what we have under Gallery:
The Camera Roll group works fine.
The Folders Group shows "6 folders". Clicking on it crashes Gallery
Under "All Photos", it lists "251 photos". When we click on the group, it shows two blank thumbnails, one picture, two blank thumbnails, one picture and so on. We are unable to delete the blank thumbnails. Clicking on them just shows the blank thumbnail icon.
The All Videos group does the same thing; two blank thumbnails for every working video.

I've tried resetting the cache under manage apps. No effect.

I've tried deleting the /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails directory. No effect.

I've rebooted the phone and unmounted/remounted the sdcard. No effect.

I've even tried throwing a .nomedia file everywhere I don't want the system to look for images. Effect, but not the desired effect I was looking for.

I have the same issue on the Atrix. I've deleted the thumbsdata file, the whole folder and unmounted and remounted. The only issue remounting fixes is that the camera roll is empty after each delete of the .thumnail folder.

What's more, every time I've deleted the thumbnail folder the All Photos and All Video folders get an increase in the total number of images/videos equal to the number of thumbnails I deleted. I have 130 photos I've taken with the phone and 500+ photos in the All Photos folder, most of which (well 3/4 at this point) are "blank" photos.

I also end up with 2 thumbsdata files, both called thumbsdata3 with differing numeric extensions after.

Tried previously suggested deletes with Astrofile as well.
