Two questions about TapFish

Wow, you sure know your fish and plants! Aren't most of the fish fairly accurately named? I don't know anything about real fish but I've compared some of them with my Nintendo Aquarium, which actually provides some educational information, and they seem to sort of track, although they tend to be a little loose in the definitions. They are definitely taking artistic license. But this is really not meant to be educational, just fun. I mean, you wouldn't breed any of those fish together and get those ugly babies in real life! I guess they could do a better job with naming the plants though. And coral isn't a plant!!

Yeah, I understand the devs couldn't go out of their way to make this game educational nor was it meant to be an educational game, but still. Why not do it the right way in the first place, rather than screw it up so that you'll have problems down the road? With the fish that were designed on the spot rather than illustrated to look like a real life fish, sure it makes sense to create a fictitious name. But if you're basing a fish on a real fish, than give it it's proper name. I'm glad they didn't name the Clown fish "Nemo" though... Haha. They probably have tried to name most of the fish close to what they represent; I'm just being picky. What would be the cutest and coolest next fish for them to add to the game is Cory Catfish. They are the best catfish and they're so cute and tiny. They're really common among fishkeepers, so I hope they'll consider designing them next!

Since I've been wondering, and may be you have been too, I just thought of a couple fish I was questioning. Some I knew from past knowledge, some I looked up:

Should be changed:
-Black ghost fish should be Black ghost knife
-Leopard frog could be renamed African Dwarf frog, but should be tan not green. Leopard frogs are grass frogs and don't live fully submerged under water. Though some of the other "fish" in the game don't either.. Haha.
-Venustus pygmy: there are freshwater tank pygmy fish known for their bright colors, but no "venustus" so why not use another common name?
-The regular algae eaters could be either a Chinese algae eater or an Oto
-The Chinese algae eater is actually a Chinese Butterfly Loach, what before was a Pleco. Chinese Sucker is another name (but rarely called) for the loaches. The devs probably didn't want to confuse people by calling them Loaches instead of Suckers, which in my opinion is stupid and gives the public less credit for what they can actually handle when given "confusing" information.
-Yellowbelly damsel should be Cocoa damsel
-Blue Devil fish looks like a Tanzanian cichlid that live in the Lake Malawi, or maybe a Blue Peacock cichlid
-Bocaccio are rockfish that are gray and ugly.
-Cookie cutter fish is actually a shark. They could've added that to the shark category.
-Cardinal should be changed to Banggai cardinal, because just Cardinal is too general in fish terms.

Actually accurate:
-Convict surgeon fish
-Freckled hawkfish
-Whiptail catfish, except for the color and the real ones have spots/pattern to its body
-Clown fish
-Neon Tetra
-Gold fish
-Bubble eye Gold fish
-Pearlscale gold fish, although it also could be an Oranda.
-Frontosa
-Jellybean Parrot fish resembles a Parrot cichlid
-Lionfish
-Benizake, although it should be red not pink, are the native word for what we would call red or sockeye salmon
-Threadfin, except for the huge belly
-Longfin bannerfish are the most accurate, it's creepy. Not even joking; google it.
-Butterfly fish
-Siamese tiger fish
-suprisingly, the Boxfish
-Mandarin Goby fish

Now thinking about it, makes me wonder if creative licensing with the names has to do with copyright infringement... Any thoughts?

Edit: I'll keep editing and adding to the list to complete the all the fish; if anyone find this as interesting as I do!

Ugly tank shall be pelted!

Poor Uglies. It isn't their fault. :(

Probably should pelt the designers. And we can look forward to a whole bunch more of these raining horrors - I've seen horseshoes and coins on the iPad version for other events. I'm sure there are others. I guess now we know what they are, we can always not claim them when they show up.

I should make a smash tank and stone them with shells. Also this is why Obee has more fish, I don't use smashes and if a breed has too many smashes I don't make it. Rainbow Nohto and Neon Tetra for instance are mostly smashbreeds. Piranha too but they're slowly being redeemed lol

I don't have tanks for smashes like Neons, Ranchus, Flowers, and I forget what else, mainly because I don't have room. I'm trying to weed out the smashes from the tanks now so I can finally combine some of the two tanks into one, cause I'm gonna need more room if there are gonna be more events! I do find it hard, because some have interesting attributes that other people may find interesting. So it's hard to pick and choose.

Btw, there's a new bg and decor theme you can get with the spinning the wheel game, it took a lot of spins, but I think I got all what is offered, it's in the tank labeled LAMETANK, formally known as STOPRAIN. Haha. I didn't do anything fancy, just wanted to show what you could win: 2 bgs -schoolyard, which I used in tank Snail 1 if you want to see, & chalkboard, and 8 decorations - a mug, apple, lunch box, stack of books, red crayon, globe, green crayon, and a school bus. They're going for a school theme this time around I'm guessing ;)

I'm testing posting my screenshots from AndroSS, these are PNG files uploaded from photobucket...

Hooray it worked! It didn't work last time! I mean I think it worked. Can you see the pictures?

Pictures look great!
Talk about lame - I won the crayon! Maybe if I can win the background next time it won't be so bad. but I can't think what any self respecting fish would do with a crayon. Hmm...

Lunchbox, school bus, two crayons, an apple, some books and a mug. Oh and a globe. They did that to stop people from not paying for algea eaters most likely lol

I still like shootme pictures are bigger =\

I still can't get the second BG.

It does make sence to have the real names but as you said its proberly copyright, I think it would be a good idea if, when you put a shark in with a neon it should eat it :D

When I first started playing I tried to see if it works like that. Put a bass in with a tank full of sharks to see if they ate it when they got hungry lol

There's a concept for feeding bricks. Feeder fish lol

I'm waiting for some good edible fish that I can harvest and eat myself - like salmon, halibut, and cod! I guess I could catch a shark or swordfish and eat that.

I renamed LAMETANK into EXAMPLE and put a few earless seals in there for you! He's okay; nothing special in my book.

Thanks ... I guess it takes a while to update because I still only see lametank.

By the way, there's a new cute breedable in town - the Foxface. I don't remember which category it's in.

I bred the fox fish. No smash breeds. Also the fox glow is the first flashing hybrid. I've bred all the glow fish and flashlight breeds.

They're in the last two tanks.

Hello, I've been playing Tapfish on my Ericsson Exp. X10 for just under a year although my wife thinks i'm stupid for playing a game that means i am punished if i fail to open it for a few days. and i have followed this thread as i have gone along from time to time

Does anyone else insist on not purchasing bucks? I'm guessin that most people get creative and follow the advise listed in these pages but as a mac user with no windows op sys i'm not sure i could. I plod along breeding in real time I've got around/over 150 x breeds but im getting close to having created all that i can (coin breedables and some buck breeders purchased with free bucks) apart from a few that died along the way. I only run a dozen tanks and non of them are dedicated to experience building anymore i got bored with that aspect around level 36 with such a big gap to more high level stuff.

I cant believe the crab event?? what is that about? the crabs are so expensive buckwise that only game hacks will be buying them ..... surely no one will actually pay real money for fishbucks to buy these things at 2500 a pop. Crazy because that means the developers have made stuff for people who are cheating them.

Sorry they arnt really questions more sort of rambling from someone who's game is approaching a natural conclusion when i have finished my grunt and goat fish x breeds. The last time i run out of stuff to do for free i put everything in the inventory but i may not bother.

SB.

Ah not entirely true, well maybe for Mac users. For android the crabs are free. As in you tap the icon get a free female crab, and use her plus items, some coin some bucks, to catch a male crab and breed accordingly. However to get the last event prize, the beach background, without buying a shitton of fishbucks requires 15 EMPTY breeding tanks (about 412 bucks and 20,000 coins) and 6 days. Breeding only counts when they hatch. So you have to fill all 15 wait three days put them all in tanks or cancel, and do it again. On the sixth day, you have 30 breeds. This the only way without speeding up breeds because the event itself only lasted a week.

But, I manipulate files now and mostly make guide and or themed tanks now. Hope this helped.

HOORAY FOR GAMEVIEW! They finally took the time to make a really cool breedable with really neat outcomes! I love all the bred fish that come from the Foxface, especially the Betta. Finally! I'm definitely going to keep two tanks for this breed.

Thanks mbender. i cant quite follow your advice as its not giving me any free crabs, but anyway i checked out your tanks which took about 10 mins to load and were worth the wait. There was indeed a mindbending amount of fish to view and i enjoyed visiting very much.
