TWS bug workaround with app from market

I'm guessing this is moot for most, if not all, rooted users, but for those of us that are either chicken, poor, or otherwise non-rooters:

i just discovered this app which, at least for me, does precisely what it says. No more forgetting to toggle for me !

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but it sure didn't look like it after searching the forum and googling. If everyone knows about it - sue me and delete the thread

Otherwise... YOU'RE WELCOME !

bump to make the thread more visible to those who may have overlooked it due to it's prior title and because i'm dumbfounded b/c it seems like not many people have noticed it

Those that google it will.

Yes. The OP was posted four days ago and has had, as of today the 25th, over 300 "views."

The number of posted responses and "thanks" button pushes are a tiny indicator of how many out there are benefiting from any thread; it's about the "views" for the most part because members and non-member searchers who land in a thread increase the "views" count. ;)

I thought it looked handy at first, but if it doesn't also toggle when you take it off the charger, I don't see the point. I charge at least once a day; I reboot maybe once a week. JMO.

What exactly is the "TWS Bug" anyway? I heard folks mention TWS before and understand that it refers to "time without service", but just exactly what is that?

I've been on the OV (2.2.1, unrooted) for almost 9 months now and, AFAIK, I've never been without service except for the occasional times that I've wandered too far out into the territories and simply had no signal.

Is this something that effects all OV's or just a select few?

in particular, unless airplane mode is toggled on each boot (or apparently after disconnecting charger ? i haven't experienced that... but it's been said that melim is always right... but i digress.) your phone will keep searching and searching and searching for signal for mysterious and magical reasons - a bug. The net result is a BIG drop in battery life. It doesn't actually reflect your reception/signal/service or whatever AFAIK - the phone just doesn't realize you DO have signal and keeps trying to find one. Best mad stab at explaining it that i as a smartphone n00b can do.

in 12 hours, views have gone up 22%.

Mind you, when i did the bump - i had seen the # of views (288 iirc) and was debating internally whether or not to bump. In my pseudo-defense, being a n00b to this forum i really have no idea how many views over a given period of time is "alot."

on another note... i haven't noticed my time-without-service numbers climbing after having disconnected the charger. I just did a double-check and after having been off the charger for an hour or two, my time-without-service was 2% which is typical for me. I'm gonna triple-check it tomorrow morning after a full charge. Maybe i'm just on crack... If it's the case that i've been overlooking something so simple... i'll feel really friggin dumb. :( It's still worth it for me, since as melim shared, reboots happen infrequently it makes it that much easier for me to forget to toggle it. not *that* big a deal, but given it's a 24kb set-it-and-forget-it solution - meh i'll go for it.

Sigh...my sig is a joke. But one thing I am right about almost 100% of the time? The behavior of my own phone. TWS was discussed to death here nearly a year ago when the V came out and a ton of people had the issue (most of these people aren't here anymore). I don't remember what causes some people to have the issue off the charger as well as on reboot, could've been one of those stupid hidden-menu radio band fixes that didn't really fix anything, could be 2.2.1 as opposed to 2.2.2, but I do know I'm not (wasn't?) the only one. I'll forego the toggle next time I take it off the charger & take a screenshot if you want proof that it does happen.

now now... i never said it didn't happen on yours the way you said it did. (was that sentence weird ? it seemed like it...) Heck, i don't even know that it doesn't behave that way on mine. I'm using auto-airplane at night and i dont have a consistent charging schedule, so it could very well be overlooked. Probably is, in fact. The first thing that came to mind wasn't skepticism at all - it was "maybe its a ROM thing" - which i then realized didn't make any sense, because if anything your ROM should be more well-behaved than my stock. (Im assuming you're not stock - i haven't yet memorized who's using what ROM) :D

Did i mention i'm pretty dang sure i got the absolute perfect first smartphone ?

Sorry, I read some hostility that wasn't there... But LMAO at the ROM thing. I'm pretty much the most notorious non-rooter (not anti-rooter, dig) in this V forum. :D

now THAT i can remember. The list of non-rooters is muuuch easier to remember. As far as hostility goes... no way... i may be oblivious sometimes - (and don't read too much into this, i'm not talking about this forum - yet... ) but i'm typically on the receiving end of hostility for reasons i've yet to figure out. I'll make what i *think* is an unbiased, neutral, reasonable observation... and BOOM it blows up in my face. Heck, on one forum i told "the experts" i learned better by reading and looking at quality photos than watching crappy youtube videos. Had a bunch of folks breathing down my neck on that one. (them: "ooh it's all about muscle memory, you can't learn that looking at a picture!" - me, in head: well you can't learn it from a vid either.) What a stupid feeling that is, being put down by folks who DO know more than you on one level, but just dumb enough insist you must learn things the same way they do.

Note: I ramble alot. Oh, and i just noticed the "nr;tl" in your Device thingy on ur user info whatever that crap is called - took me a couple seconds to decode... but the fact that it was there all along gave *me* a case of the LMFAOs.

We're a pretty moderate bunch here. We may disagree, but we don't insult. I, for one, will jump in to defend anyone here if it seems like things are turning hostile. Part of what I love about this forum is the lack of flame wars. My skills in diplomacy, while considerable, are better used in my real world.

Ramble on...:D I just put the nr;tl in there earlier today, actually, and you're the first person to comment on it, so you win the prize for most observant person of the day. :) The L stands for
lazy
I'm glad you had a good laugh, though.

Speak for yourself, bro. Nah, I have my bad/oversensitive days, and I have freaked out on people plenty of times here, but y'all are starting to have a calming effect on me, kinda like hypnosis...:p

^OK, now I'm just jealous. :)

And we're all good in here, Andy. It's a regular love-fest now, or therapy session... though my therapy doesn't usually include dip. :D

I have an unopened bag of corn chips... And some fairly bland salsa.

I want some nacho cheese dip.

That is all.

(and yes, rule #3 was made in jest. good things come in threes right :D )
