Help Typing on keypad.

Newbie
Compare to the iPhone this is pretty in accu red. I want to type not swipe. And the Vlingo is a gimmick at times. Can't understaad a thing.

I think the user is inaccurate. The phone displays whatever characters you press :D

It's like any other keyboard change (phone, PC, notebook, etc.), it just takes a little getting used to, that's all :)

I still haven't gotten used to using Swype, and just decided to turn it off. Happy using the multi touch keypad.

+1

Friend of my uses it and he's fast. I change directions moving from letter to letter, causing swype to mess up. I thumb type much faster.

I've tried swype, the multitouch keyboard, swiftkey, and smart keyboard pro.

I like swype, it's great for one hand typing.

Swiftkey is great at predicting what you say, but the only thing that bothers me is that it does spell-check your typing, but it won't autocorrect without you tapping a word (future update maybe?).

I like Smart Keyboard Pro the best. It almost emulates the iPhone keyboard and autocorrects nicely as you type. Oh, and it comes with a bunch of pre-installed skins.

Download and install one of those, give them a shot.

I've used all of those that you've mentioned except Smart Keyboard Pro. I loved Swype for a while when I had my Captivate, but manual entry of words that weren't in the dictionary and number entry felt more cumbersome than it should be. I loved Swiftkey on my HTC Aria because it made typing on that tiny 3.2 inch screen more doable. After a while of learning my common phrases and such I could type whole sentences by just tapping the recommended words lol. On the Atrix I've tried both Swype and Swiftkey briefly, but I keep going back to the default pre-installed keybaord for one reason: it never auto-corrects me when I don't want it to.

Haha I can't type for my life without some basic autocorrect, which is why the standard keyboard didn't work well for me. I spent too much time with the iPhone since it was initially released on the market (iphone 2g)

By the way, props to being in Long Island. I'm in Westbury myself lol

 LI representing.

So did you really find Smart Keyboard Pro to be the most iPhone-keyboard-like? I'd hate to admit it, but at times I kinda of do miss the iPhone keyboard.

What part of LI?

And yes definitely. I hate to admit it too, but that's the single thing that I miss from my iPhone. Smart Keyboard Pro autocorrects automatically just like the iPhone keyboard (to me atleast).

While the built in one and SwiftKey do autocorrect, they don't autocorrect big errors (only small typos). Smart Keyboard Pro seems to pick up some of my bigger typing mistakes better than the others. I'm typing pretty much just as quick as I did on the iPhone with it.

My perfect keyboard would have iPhone autocorrect and SwiftKey prediction built into one. I guess we can only dream for that huh?

Google acquiring the Blind Type keyboard could mean something though. If you havn't checked out the Blind Type videos, it seems like that keyboard is as "revolutionary" as it will get, assuming Google would release it for the platform.

This is my first Android device, I came from a BB 9700, and I tried out ALL of the keyboards out there. Smart Keyboard Pro definitely works the best for me. The auto-correcting, ease of typing, etc. just works. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I actually tried the trial of Smart Keyboard today just because of all the praise you guys were giving it. It was laggy and made me have to be more cautious when typing to keep up with me. I haven't had this problem on the stock keyboard, Swiftkey, Swype... just this. Maybe its just the trial? Either way I didn't want to spend my money on it after experiencing that. Other than that it seemed nice. The lag was a deal breaker, though.

Really?

No lag here for me
o__o

Yeah, I dunno. I know the trial is designed to have those annoying pop up ads. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I have the full version here, for me it might even be more responsive than the iPhone's keyboard lol

Something's up with the trial I'm guessing. Maybe try clearing the data/reinstalling?

totally new to anything but a BlackBerry. getting the hang of typing, but is there anyway to disable the smile face key under backspace/delete? I keep pressing that with my fat fingers. Any recommendations for a newbie to touch screen typing appreciated.
