Typing on the Thunderbolt

I am slightly embarrassed to actually ask this, but here goes -

I find myself making tons of spelling mistakes while typing on the T'Bolt. I had an iPod Touch earlier and I seldom made any typing errors. I am one of those people who are particular about grammar, spelling and syntax and it is getting a bit irksome to type at a snail's speed to get things right.

Has anyone else had this problem while after shifting to a bigger device from a smaller one? Is this something that I will overcome eventually?
 
haha, don't feel bad.

If you were able to type efficiently on the iPod Touch, you should be able to eventually get going on the TB. I have an adjustment period going from keyboard to keyboard let alone changing the phone's size.

You may also want to try different keyboards. Check out the gingerbread keyboard in the market. You may like that better; I do.

The other advice that I can give you is concentrate on looking at the keypad, not the text entry field. If you're looking at the keypad, you're probably going to end up hitting the right buttons.

BTW... I'm from San Diego too. 4G out here is awesome!
 
The gingerbread keyboard is a lot more accurate for me. Also be sure that quick fixes is enabled as it does an awesome job at correcting common mistakes.
 
SwiftKey is great for grammatically correct, fast typing. I was using Swype for the first couple weeks with my Thunderbolt (first smartphone although I had an ipod touch), but started to become annoyed at the constant grammar fixes I had to manually do which seemed to get worse over time. It's taken me about 1.5 weeks to get really accustomed to SwiftKey but I'm making FAR FAR less mistakes with the awesome word prediction in feature. I believe it's also cheaper than SlideIT.
 
Another vote for the gingerbread keyboard. Very accurate. The word prediction is excellent.
 
I have FATTY fingers and I dont have issues as long as I turn it to landscape view. lol. I tried one typing app and HATED it. I love the stock keys.
 
I came from a blackberry so the learning curve was quite steep on that one. I've been using better keyboard since I got my android and it's served me well. Has customizable skins that make it look nice and I ilke the feel of all the buttons.
 
I was using Swype on my OG Droid, got really annoyed with it though. I have a friend who's last name is Tyo, no matter what I did whenever I would try to Swype the word "to" (which lets be honest is a very commonly used word) it would always correct it to Tyo. I tried removing Tyo from the dictionary, that didn't work. I think Swype uses your contact list to help correct words.

I'm using Flex T9 now and love it, it has very nice swype ability and is good at correction and tap type. It can also do voice typing, and has a neat "drawing" feature (like the old grafitti from the old Palm devices). I also use Swift key sometimes when I feel like changing things up lol.

Have you tried it in landscape mode? It fills the entire screen (at least when texting) making it unusable. It seems to be ok in other apps though. Per the developer's website it's a known issue they're working on. I may try Keyboard for Android until the next version of SwiftKey is released.

I almost never use it in landscape mode. I usually just one hand text in portrait mode. It seems to me that multitouch doesn't work too well (or at all) with SwiftKey. I've read elsewhere that it is supposed to support multitouch...

The app just got an update with the following descriptions as to the changes:
What's in this version:
Fix various force close issue.
Option to disable user dictionary and contact dictionary.
Option to disable popup fadeout animation.
Add Portuguese / Slovak Language Pack.
 
Wow. I'm so happy I found this. The gingerbread keyboard has solved all the typing frustrations I was having with my Thunderbolt. This is a lifesaver. thanks. I knew there would be a learning curve, but I just couldn't get comfortable with the way it reacted and was laid out. The gingerbread keyboard works so much better for me.
