Flashing a ROM is merely the process after downloading the zip file of the ROM, which is a compressed version of the working files you'll be installing, and then moving that zip to your sd card, then via recovery mode, flashing the ROM into your phone.

- Download a ROM of choice to your computer

- Plug your charging/USB cable into your computer's USB port

- Select "disc drive" on your phone

- Wait while your computer recognizes the phone then select "view files"

- Drag the zipped ROM to the sd card (that's the top directory in the sd card's hierarchy)

- Disconnect the USB cable.

- Power down your phone

- Hold the volume up key and press the power button

- Select "wipe"

- Wipe and Dalvik wipe (two operations)

- Press the volume down key

- Select flash

- Select your ROM's zip file

- Press the track ball.

(go slowly ;))

Here is a page with some ROM starting points. Have fun.

Im thinking maybe he should do a nand backup before the wipes.
I know I would, because if your zipped rom is &%$*ED up, you got to have some thing in recovery to restore.
