So someone please tell me what the difference is between this and just hitting search on the soft keys. Also long press search on soft keys for voice search. theres really no reason for it am i right? maybe except for looks and to fill the screen..

Yep. It was one of the first things I removed. Of course, I have long press set to open Quick Settings, but I never use voice search anyway.

That's only if you have a keyboard. Dont think the captivate does.

The Google search widget is useless. They just put it there to show off the phone or something. I mean the phone has a freaking dedicated search button! What else do we need, a home widget and a menu widget?
