UK Desire - Using in India

Hi all,

I have an HTC Desire on contract from Vodafone (UK) and now using it in india. I am unable to use the FM (in-built) in the phone as it does not have the frequency range used by indian FM stations.

Can anyone tell me how can I use the FM on my desire while I am in India?
Is there any app that I can download from Market?

Thanks in advance

What is the FM station frequency you are trying to access. Usually the FM range is 87.9-107.9 around the world. And, I think the Indian stations might be in that range only.

The MHz frequency that my HTC Desire shows range from

76-90 Mhz

There is no way for me to go over 90 Mhz. unless there is some option in Desire to change the frequency level.

Yes, Indian FM station range from 91-106 or 107 Mhz.

Can you suggest me how to fix this?

Thanks

Sounds like you're not using FM but as I've never used the function as it'd kill my battery I can't help sorry

OK, quick Google shows 76-90 is the FM range for Japan

From Wikipedia:

"In most of the world, the FM broadcast band, used for broadcasting FM radio stations, goes from 87.5 to 108.0 MHz. Japan's FM broadcast band is 76–90 MHz, the only country to use this span. The OIRT band in Eastern Europe is 65.8–74 MHz, although a number of these countries have either added 87.5-108 MHz and are operating the two FM bands simultaneously, as in the case of Russia, or have shut down stations on the OIRT band."

"The FM band in Japan is 76-90 MHz. The 90-108 MHz section is used for VHF TV Channels 1, 2 and 3 (each NTSC television channel is 6 MHz wide). The narrowness of the Japanese band (14 MHz compared to slightly more than 20 MHz for the CCIR band) limits the number of FM stations that can be accommodated on the dial with the result that many commercial radio stations are forced to use AM."

My UK Desire FM radio goes from 87.5 to 108 MHz. I can't see why your UK Desire only goes up to 90 as most UK radio stations are above this frequency - I suggest you get in touch with Vodafone because they appear to have supplied you with phone in the UK which is not UK spec.
