One other quick hit question while I wait for a WiFi fix suggestion.

How do I allow write permissions for my SD Card.
I cannot drag and drop anything onto it without "The Media is Write Protected" error.

Thanks again.

You need the drivers. There is a link around here somewhere.

Stupid question, are you enabling usb storage? Yeah i know you probably did but just checking.
Not a stupid question but yes, however I'm not receiving the normal:
"USB debugging connected", even though it's on, nor am I receiving:
"If you turn on USB storage...." OK or Cancel prompt after choosing to Turn On USB Storage.

I don't get a debugging alert as well, but when i tap on the usb storage under the little android guy it never gives me a response it just connects. It did give a debugging alert before on one of the roms. Hmmm.

Looking at the sdcard in Root Explorer shows it has full read write access, so I'm guessing I need a way to get the USB drivers onto the phone??

Just outta curiosity, there's a folder in system/cdrom/autorun.iso that I've not seen before nor do I have on my LG's.
Any chance that might be the culprit??

You got me there. I know in stock the autorun is suppose to install the drivers but in cm's it was changed to save space. I just used my wife's phone to install the drivers and it just worked. I'm lost at why it's not working for you.

Well, I thank you for the back and forth. I'll keep plugging away tomorrow or maybe someone will have an epiphany for me overnight as I'm hitting the hay.

Thanks again MoneyHoarder87

i am currently running Icarus 1.1, and its awesome but i was thinking about trying cm7. when i tried to install cwm 3.0.0.5, 3.0.2.4 and 3.0.2.8 each one gets stuck at the red and black huawei screen instead of loading into recovery mode. cwm 2.5.1.8 installed flawlessly when i installed icarus. and i just reinstalled it to make sure that it would work again. and it worked. for some reason when i try the newer cwm's they won't work for me. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. i hope this is ok to ask in this thread.

NOTE: You will need ClockworkMOD recovery v2.5.1.8. Now, I realize that CWM has been pushed to and it IS a higher version, however it comes at a price. The current kernel we use (2.6.29-perf) has not be built to support the EXT4 filesystem. CWM 3.0.0.5, as far as I know, will partition SD cards to use EXT4. We need a recovery that is reliable, built properly and supports our phone and its current filesystems. Should newer kernels be released, this will be a non-issue
Hope that helps.

You can install CM7 with the old cwm. All roms, except icarus, can be flashed with any cwm. So just flash cm7. By the way it should not boot in to recovery(vol up,call, power) you should bootloader screen(vol down, end call, power) then run the three files and it will work. I have upgraded to every cwm just change the .img file and run them. Hope this helps.

i did run the three files in the bootloader screen and once i pull the battery for 30 secs and boot into recovery it shows the white and red huawei sign, then the black and red huawei sign and never boots into recovery. the reason i tried the other cwm's is because no matter what i do cwm 2.5.1.8 will not flash cm6 or cm7 for me. i followed topenpoke's guide to the letter and tried many other tut's. it goes through the motion as if it's installing, but when i reboot the system in gets stuck on the cm7 huawei screen. and yes i waited the proper ten minutes. one time i waited an hour and it still wouldn't load. i wonder if it is just my phone. like i said previously icarus installed fine. but i can't get cm6 nor cm7 to install on my phone. and yes i flashed back to stock before trying.

Hey....I've got a question...Ihave ROM Manager v4.2.0.2 running clockwork mod 3.0.0.5. I have tried to flash to 3.0.2.8. but it stays at 3.0.0.5 I'm not sure I know how to flash it properly.. Could someone here please explain it to me? Thanks!

For those of you having wireless connection issues at after installing new ROM, I have a solution.

Check your phone for the NEW WIFI MAC address that it received after the ROM install.
Settings>About Phone>Status>Wi-Fi MAC address

For those of you that are security conscious and have locked down your home LAN to only allow wireless access to the MAC addresses in your MAC filter list, you will need to update that list with your phones new MAC addy.

Not to be critical of the folks who so graciously provide the free ROMS and or work to provide detailed information about how to install them BUT, it would have been nice to know that little bit of information as I had no idea that installing a custom ROM would change a phones MAC address.

NOW I don't have to worry so much about the sdcard issue since I can go back to using ESFile Explorer to connect to my LAN. whew! :D

Got a new problem with CM7.
Initially, the camera worked but the video recorder didn't which I knew going in.
Now I'm receiving Camera Error "Cannot connect to camera", each time I try to load it.

Anyone have an idea as to how to remedy this?

Thank you

No idea on how to fix it but isaac said he did not recommend trying to use the video camera. This might have been why. I'm sure you already know my solution, reflash. But i would wait around until someone else adds their two cents.

Thank you for the response.
The camera is currently back up and running, although it took a power down and not just a simple reboot to bring it back.
What killed the camera for me was the Barcode Scanner app. After clicking on Barcode Scanner it would never initialized so I had to hit the Menu button, which brought up the Force Close or Wait dialog. Waiting didn't work, so I forced it closed and tried the camera which again returned the error previously mentioned.
After playing with the camera again, which runs, but is buggy to the extreme, every application now opens in landscape. Another power down fixed that but geez.

Wow, I'm finding out that CM7 is a buggy mess and I'm only on day 2 of this test drive. Don't get me wrong, I'm very appreciative of the hard work that's involved in creating a ROM but shouldn't a lot of debugging be included in that creation process before it's released to the masses?
I don't mind being a beta tester, hell, I was one of the first members of the PS underground and I beta tested hundreds of games but I knew what I was getting and I didn't have to rely on my PS, PS2 or PS3 to do the things we expect todays smart phones to do without fail.

I'll throw in the being a n00b caveat, so as to hopefully not receive to much heat for my buggy mess comment, but I followed the instructions to a tee and heeded all of the warnings before installing CM7. Unfortunately, while beautiful, sleek and quick, it seems as though CM7 isn't quite ready for prime time, at least not on this Ascend.

Sorry, I hope I don't offend anyone, I'm just really disappointed that CM7 didn't meet my expectations.

Thats why it says WIP (work in progress)

Also, be sure to fill out a bug report and be as detailed as possible.

Please remember that this is a free product (unless you wish to donate), and the dev is doing this in his spare time on a phone he no longer uses or even has service on.

Comments like this are what makes developers throw up their hands and say "screw these ungrateful people". Once again he is doing this for free, on his own time, and it is a work in progress. If you want a bug free experience, use the stock ROM or Icarus.

says this right on the cm7 update page

05042011:
  • Sync with CM repos
  • Tweaked WIFI a bit
  • Fixed copybit permissions, seems to have helped in graphics performance
  • New tweaked stock launcher (see notes)
  • New CM7 feature! You can now clear individual notifications (see notes)
  • Fixed BUILD_ID, we're at 2.3.4 now aren't we? ;)
  • Updated new OTA fingerprint, using Nexus One fingerprint. Market still works.
  • I broke camcorder even more, watch out on that one.
  • Regular clean-up
As has been said this is being done out of the goodness of their hearts...expect bugs...look at cyanogen mod for the updates on whats working and whats not..I love my CM7!!:D

I just wanted to thatnk everyone that worked on this MOD and a special thanks to TokenPoke for the SUPER EASY Directions! I followed them to a tee and i was able to flash over to Icarus on my first try! Real Simple and Easy and the Results are AWESOME! My Ascend is so much faster and better than before its sick!

My only Recommendation would be to add some sort of instructional video for the others to follow along with, I used the one from this Thread: http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/267406-how-install-icarus-mod.html (even though the Video and the steps are old, it still shows the process being done which helps tremendously!).

Again Thank you to everyone who Pitched in on this! It is much appreciated!

I reciently address the drivers to the guide. They area at the bottom f the cm6 and 7 guides.

Unfortunately I've not updated to the newest build of cm7 yet. Please visit the wiki.

A friend has found a good metroff that doesn't add the roaming indicator.

I have not had wifi problems so i can't say anything but redownload and reflash.

I know, and that's why I tried to word my disappointment carefully. The last thing I want to do is discourage future development, but most devs, like anyone who creates, expects a certain amount of displeasure to be openly posted and hopefully their constitution is built to handle it.

Tweaked WiFi a bit doesn't tell me, and again I'm an admitted Android n00b, that the MAC addy would be changed. Not a big deal as I finally figured it out but, I've seen posts where people have simply given up trying to make it work and didn't think to look in the phone details for such a change.
As stated before, I knew the camcorder issue going in and was comfortable with it. What I didn't read was that after initiating the camera, every application opened afterwards would open in landscape view. Maybe I have the only phone that this occurred on, as I didn't see any posts about anyone else having this issue.

Thankfully, this is my 15 year old sons phone and he's loving the look and feel of CM7, which is a FAR cry from stock.

Maybe...part of my disappointment also revolves around being the "Can you do that to my phone?" guy. Whether it's family or friends, PC, MAC, iwhatever device, I get the call for modding help. Maybe I'm getting to old for this sheet. NAH, not yet.:D;)
