Help Um, I think this battery issue will be a problem...

I charged mine last night. Barely used it and its was on half charge and back on charger by 2. iphone did not do much better.

I have read that you should charge your phone with under 40% battery. For some reason it charges better? Not sure about that.

I also read that you should only let your battery completely die about once a month and that is only to help the phones battery meter not the actual battery.

I also noticed I am getting 2 message notification for every text message, 1 handcent icon and 1 regular text message icon, either one i click opens handcent, but could it be that i have 2 messaging client going at the same time? I checked running services, but I don't see that happening....

I decided to test it. This phone is not mine, it's my girlfriends. We switched today. I am waiting for EVO....anyway.

Took charger out at 6:30am, went to work, used GPS to see how it works, flawlessly. After arriving at work, turned off all programs with Advanced Task Manager (kept doing that before putting phone away....some people say it's not a good program or worth it?. Why?)

I used it occasionally showing people this new piece of masterpiece, going to websites, taking pictures, downloading apps, surfing pictures, etc. At lunch at 1:00pm, battery was like 75%, surfed net non-stop for 30 minutes while I ate. Of course made some calls.

Went to doctor's office, waiting for my girlfriend, surfed net coming to this website and reading new topics, downloaded free game "Toss it", played a little bit, got bored, slept for about 5 mins....lol.

And battery just turned yellow (at 3:30pm ET). I don't know if it's 25% or less.

So, I don't know what you guys would call that.

Good battery or bad.

It is so weird but my phone never shows display. But those percentages r just the current usage. If you opened more apps it would adjust accordingly.

You should be looking under applications to see what apps are actually running in the background and kill any app you currently aren't using and do not need running in the background.

that is my point, i hardly use anything else and my battery is still draining from 8 am to 3 pm to 14%

I don't really go by bars with the incredible, I just watch it switch from 3G to 1X. If it has ANY bars on 3G service is speedy and clear. The switching back and forth is what worries me, and it happens constantly.

Yes, I'm almost certain this is the problem. Like I mentioned, my first blackberry tour had this issue, and the battery would go from 100% to 0% in about 3 hours with little - if not no - use. I've noticed that when it drains quickly it's toggling between 1x and 3g, and that search must kill the battery.

In the instance of the BB Tour, I just swapped it for a new one, and had no problems from there on out. But if this is an issue across all Incredible units, then no amount of swapping is going to make a difference.

This is a really disappointing problem. I don't want to get stuck in an emergency situation with my phone dead. And I shouldn't have to charge the thing every four hours just to ensure that doesn't happen.

Anyone have any clue how to fix this?

Did u check under applications-->running services to see what is possibly running in the background? You may be surprised what is still running.

The phone should be auto-exiting programs, not draining the battery. I'm having the same problem of super battery drain, and one way or another, there is either an OS or hardware issue. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough when everyone else starts complaining.

Turn off notification for the one you don't want

The switching back and forth happened to me too when I first got the phone.
Try this:
1. Plug in phone charger
2. Put phone in Airplane mode
3. Put phone to sleep for a minute
4. Turn off airplane mode
5. Unplug phone

Ever since I did that it doesn't switch between 3G and 1X anymore even after numerous reboots. The signal meter is still horribly inaccurate but it now stays on 3G with no problems. It helped my battery life a lot.

Check the actual signal strength. You may be getting the same service just the bars may not be showing it. Known issue with HTC.

Closer to 0 is a better signal. i.e. -67 is better than -80.

Mine says -69, is that good or bad in terms of signal strength? It's showing one bar.

New to the forums (just got my first smartphone, the DI, yay!).

I too am having some battery problems. I timed my battery life today, and from 100% to shutdown I got 4 hours and 7 minutes.

I was using the phone (playing Parallel Kingdom) a lot of that time, but everything else except gmail was killed (using the Applications Settings on the phone, as well as a Task Killer App). Wifi and Bluetooth are always off, screen brightness is at a medium level, and I have been using the Airplane mode trick.

My husband also got an Incredible, and although he isn't using it as hard, it does still seem like mine is way worse on battery. Should I do a few more full charge cycles before making final judgment?

I'm going to swap phones with my husband this weekend if it doesn't get better, and see how it compares. If his is a lot better, I may try swapping batteries to see if it is a battery problem or a phone problem.

Any other ideas?

My battery usage is as follows:

Android system 47%
Cell standby 15%
Phone idle 5%
Display 15%
Parallel Kingdom 11%
Voice Calls 7%

Other than the crippling battery life, I love the phone! Would be 100% happy with it if I could get 10 hours or so.

Will report back if I figure anything out!

Having the screen on will definitely use the battery. So if you were playing the game a good portion of the 4 hours you got out of it that would certainly use some juice.

I agree the battery isn't stellar. But I'm a heavy user, and I mean heavy (nearly 200 emails a day), some talking and a little but of surfing and RSS reading and I squeeked 10 hours out of mine. I'm not happy with that so I'm getting the 1500 mAh Touch Pro2 battery. But long story short, there's got to be something wrong with your phone. Maybe an app or something is draining it. That's just way too short.

Dang, bro. I guess opinions aren't allowed at your house, huh? I'm simply giving my experience as a piece of data to add to the building consensus that there may be a data issue. Believe me, I'll re-evaluate after 2 or 3 battery cycles, because I want this to work out.

Don't sweat it - that guy's a doosh - he's on probation for a reason.

I have been waiting for the Incredible since it was rumored, I have been very anxious waiting for the release...While I truly am very impressed with the phone I am also very concerned about the battery life and signal. I am well aware that the signal meter is somewhat irrelevant but I have also noticed that when I have zero bars I then go to 1x and then...I'm at a standstill waiting for the 3G icon to reappear...sometimes it takes a while. I have zero bars in areas where my wife has 2 or 3...I haven't dropped many calls( I haven

I believe one reason the battery life is so poor is because of the poor signal...mine is constantly searching for service...that will drain a battery fast.

I feel like technology is accelerating way too quickly while battery research is being left in the dust.

They just aren't matching up anymore and if this doesn't change quick then it's just going to keep getting worse as new phones come out.

I agree. It's time to research some nuclear options...plutonium battery perhaps? :D

But on a serious note, I agree that most people are probably overreacting. Same thing happens every year with iPhone releases, with a bunch of threads being started about horrible battery reviews from the get go. Give it a few cycles and tweak your background apps before jumping to conclusions!!!

I'm about ready to ditch my iPhone and hop on the Incredible wagon. Hopefully I'll start posting a lot more here soon..

Possibly in your area. Verizon's network is, for lack of a comparable word, Incredible over most of CONUS. So I don't think that would apply as a reason for any wide spread battery problems.

Personally, I think it's only a matter of starting with a relatively weak 1300 mh battery coupled with a strong processor and a consumer base that has yet to pin down all the vampire software that runs behind the curtain and sucks all the fun out of this piece of wonderful. In a month or so, this phone will be studied enough to give anyone a way to circumvent the battery problems.

I had terrible battery life since getting my phone yesterday morning. Yeah, I'm using it a lot (web browsing, texting, marketplace, just getting is set up, etc), but damn, I could barely make it last 5 hours on a full charge. I installed juicedefender earlier today and it did seem to make some difference, but tonight after a full charge I did the airplane mode trick and I've barely dropped in about 4 hours. Have used it some, but not a lot, but still I think the airplane mode trick does work. I'll know more in the morning because last night it went from 80% to 20% just sitting by my bedside for 7 hours while I slept.

No, that's just it Verizon is excellent in my area (46350) but there is something wrong with the Incredible's ability to pull in a strong signal...it's obviously a software glitch or...a poor radio, remember all the Nexus 3G issues? I'm not basing this off of bars either...I attempted to do *228 opt 2 tonight and for the 1st time with any Verizon phone at my address I could not complete the call cause of the signal dropping.

It's not the Network causing the widespread battery issues it's they way the phone is connecting to the network.

I love the phone...but I will not live in denial to the obvious issues because of an undying love for it.

I can't confirm that problem. I'm getting a more reliable 3G signal than I did on my Motodroid. I traveled around 120 miles over my area today (mostly rural) and my down time was less than 5%. My battery usage so far, has been acceptable. Unless I'm hammering the phone with data usage, it performs like most cell phones I have had. I have a feeling your problems are probably app related and can be regulated. Hope that's the case anyway. Good luck.

Recharged with an even worse result (about 3.5 hours). The screen was on for a lot of that time, but it still doesn't add up imo. I know the game is using up a lot of resources, but there is literally nothing else running (besides gmail) and even the screen was on a fairly low brightness. Will try using my husband's phone tomorrow and see how it differs. I will be upset if playing a game for an hour means I won't be able to use my phone most of the day!
