Root Umm Multiple questionss.

Alright first of all, best launcher for Evo? Currently using Launcher Pro Plus ;)
My evo is rooted, running on the latest FreshEvo, trying to make the battery last long but still perform well! How do i reduce the battery use while my phone isnt in use? Also any tweaks for battery life, or cool apps please recommend!!! I havent searched this website looking for the answers, sorry. Very busy :/

Welcome.

Honestly, and this isn't snark, the best way to learn (other than reading the users manual) is to search the forum for those very topics. You'll be surprised at the things you'll learn...then some.

Search the forum, you'll be happy you did. ;)

Agreed! Searching is the best way to learn. People who have been on the forum for a long time start to see the same thread title's over, and over again, and won't chime in because the topic has been covered ad nauseum!

Happy searching! :)

There is a bazillion threadsss

Before I bought my HTC EVO 4G, I wrote down everything I used my previous device for, then I came to this site and researched every single one of those topics.

Yes, it's time consuming, however, I feel that nobody can search for me. In order to fully answer your own question searching/researching yourself is the best way to learn about your device.

Almost every question I had, had been asked and answered multiple times and most questions led me to another question or peaked my interest on another topic.

The best way to learn about your device and any (advanced) features is to write down all your questions then spend an hour here searching the EVO 4G forums.

First off, welcome to AF Ozzy :)! Secondly, there is no *best* launcher, that's all going to be based on your preference. Launcher Pro IMHO, is the quickest and the easiest to customize, but you may like the many themes that ADW Launcher or GO Launcher release. Best thing to do is to try em out and see what suites you.

As far as extending battery life on your Evo, there are a few things you can do to achieve stellar battery life. You can flash a custom kernel and use it in conjunction w/ SetCPU (to underclock/overclock and set a screen off profile), or use the Collin_ph Battery Tweak. There are some other things you can do that don't require you to flash anything. You can turn off auto-syncing, turn off auto-brightness, and turn off data (3G) whenever you're not browsing the web, sending emails, or MMS messages. Remeber, you can still make outgoing calls and receive them, as well as send/receive SMS messages while 3G is turned off. You'll noticeable notice battery improvement by doing the things I just mentioned.

If you're looking for some cool root only apps, take a look at this sticky: ROOTING For Dummies + Extras. I hope this helps you.

Welcome to the forum Cars! It sounds like you flashed an AOSP ROM, CM7 I'm guessing. In any case when flashing an AOSP ROM, you need to flash the GAAPS (Google Apps) file as well. You can find the file here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29437976/gapps-evo-20110504-vm.zip

I'm going to assume that flashing is a fairly new thing to you so I'll break it down for you.

1. Download GAAPS file onto a place you'll remember on your PC

2. Plug your phone via USB to your PC and select "Disk Drive"

3. Locate the downloaded GAAPS file on your PC and place file onto root directory of your SD Card on your Evo (on topmost level, not in any folders)

4. Power phone off, then back on while holding volume down (this will take you to hboot)

5. Select "Recovery" using volume keys to move up and down and power to select

6. Once in Recovery wipe cache and dalvik cache (I believe you can find them in the advanced options, it's been so long since I've used CW)

7. After wiping, choose "Flash zip from SD Card" or something to that affect

8. Locate the GAAPS file and press power to select.

9. Let it do it's thing and then "Reboot"

Viola, once rebooted you'll have your GMAIL and Market apps in place.
