Help Unable to access full website for certain sites

Lurker
Hi - I'm debating whether to go with the Inc (shipped to my house on Friday) or the D-X. I so much want to choose the DX b/c of the larger screen but to be honest, it seems like the usability of the Inc is a a bit better (much closer to iPhone experience than D-X) as the scrolling b/w menus is much smoother than the D-X

Separately, I tried accessing the chicago tribune website on both phones - the DX only allows me to access the mobile version but the Inc allows me to access the full desktop version. When I tried clicking on desktop icon at the bottom of the Tribune website on the DX, it still points me to the mobile website. Any idea why this is the case?

Thanks. Need to decide very soon.

I've notice the same thing also. The only work around I have found, is to type the website name into the search bar without the ".com" at the end. Hit enter. Once the website link(s) load up, click the link and it usually takes you to the full site. If it's one I visit a lot, then I usually save it as a bookmark. Hope that helps.

Seriously? Get an iPhone then.
I am waiting for DX in mail so that I can get the DROID experience; NOT IPHONE!!!!

under the browser settings there should be an option to disable mobile versions of websites. Its a standard option that comes on all android webkit browsers.

I can't find it there. I was able to find it on my Eris under settings, but it's not there on the X. Strange.

+1

This works for the stock browser. Or simply download another browser: Dolphin HD, XScope or Skyfire.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I can't get that to work for the Megadeth Forums. I put forums.megadeth into the search bar and it finds it, but when I click on the link it takes me to the mobile view site.

There are no settings for the stock broswer to toggle from mobile to desktop page rendering. Get the Dolphin HD browser from the marketplace and set User Agent to Desktop. All pages will display with the full version, not mobile. Plus, Dolphin has tabbed browsing as a bonus.

Actually the easier work around is to just long press on the link that says "take me to the full page" or whatever and when the menu pops up choose "open in a new window". Why the X gets stuck on some mobile sites like that I don't know, I'd be willing to bet it is something that is easily fixed as the original Droid never had that problem.

I would if the iPhone was available on Verizon. I'll reserve judgment until after I become more familiar with my new Android device but from what I can tell so far, the iPhone experience is still much better.
