Help unable to activate the teethering in Galaxy S2 to iPad

I have an unlimted plan... do I need to pay more to teether to my iPad2? If I root it then can I teeter it for free or can I just download or purchase some software to do it instead of the Samsung built in one with the Galaxy s2. I think ATT loced it out... anyone know how to unlock it ??

AT&T added software to the guts of the phone that monitors your data usage. When it sees you tethering -- whether you're rooted or not -- it reports that to AT&T and they begin billing you the monthly tethering fee. I believe it's an additional $50 where I live.

So it is possible that if the S2 is Rooted... teethering software can be installed to bypass this?

I rooted to do this very thing. I tried...it didn't work. Then I used Titanium Backup to freeze the At&t monitoring apps and have had no problems since.
Of course, I've only been doing this for 1 month but it has worked great.
I use it as sparingly as possible for the iPad so as to not bring attention to myself.

Do I still need to root it then? As I hate to root it as it messes thins up. Can one back up all system like iTunes ..

You need to root in order to freeze the At&t software that prevents you from using the tethering feature. I would research rooting this phone in depth before attempting to do so. If you read these forums enough you will see plenty of people screaming for help because they rooted, did something wrong and can't get back to stock.

How to root:

How to go back to stock:

Root and freeze the tethering manager with tibu. You can also try foxfi. It somehow bypasses the lockdown hotspot feature that ATT puts on the device...not sure if this will get picked up by big brother though
