Help Unable to 'Boot' Xoom

markw10

Newbie
I have the original Motorola Xoom with the newest version of Android that can be installed on that device. I can't remember what that version is now.
It has been working fine although VERY slow. I know it's age is showing and actually am waiting on the update to the Nexus 7 and will get that. The issue is when I turn it on it seems to be booting and then goes to the screen that almost looks like a screen saver where it's showing the rainbow like colors in a pattern. It just keeps doing that, nothing more. I have even left it on overnight to find it doing the same thing the next morning. I've unplugged it figuring if I let the battery run down it'll work fine when I boot it up but no luck. I even try turning it on while holding the volume up button which I've been told is some type of soft reset. Is still will not boot.
Any idea of how I can reset it so I can still use this device?
Also, as mentioned I'm upgrading shortly. This tablet is now sold old it's barely usable. If there's some type of hard reset that will reset it to factory settings and hopefully allow it to work I'll do that. If I'm able to do that I'm at the point I'd likely just sell it now on eBay and wait for the new Nexus 7. Also, I don't know if this is possible but I realize it's gotten slow with newer versions of Android. I may even downgrade to an older version of Android if possible.

Thanks for your help.

You an boot into recovery and do a factory data reset.

With your Xoom off press power and 3 seconds after you see the moto symbol press the volume down button. You will see recovery written on the top, press volume up to select. I we a custom recovery so the next is going off of memory. Go to wipe using volume down or up and power to select look for factory reset and select. This will wipe your data and reinstall the system software.

Hello,
I appreciate your help. I did a hard reset since I am at the point I'd gladly sell this and this may be a good time to do it. I did the reset that i think said it would also clear all data. I've done this twice but it didn't fix the issue. It stays on the screen with the red circle with the M for awhile and then goes to that rainbow type screen and never leaves.
Is there any other type of reset I can do? It is cleared to the point that my data is off so I know I can safely sell this but instead of selling it was a bricked unit I'd rather sell it as a unit that is working 100%. I know there are other options, something like ADP or setting up from USB. If necessary I can hook it up to my PC. I don't want to do anything like root it but is there a way I can somehow do a hard reset from the PC or so where I can download Android or something like that and just completely reset it that way instead of doing the hard reset?

Thanks again!
