Help Unable to change message notification ringtone

Hi there,

I bought a new Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 last week and I'm up with problem.

The default message notification ringtone just irritates me to the core. Hence I tried to change it from 'Settings' -> 'Sound & Display' -> 'Notification ringtone'. I change it to some music and tap on 'Save' on top. But when I get new messages I still get that default ringtone(it doesn't ring the one which I selected). When I go back to notification ringtone, I can see see the music which I had selected has a tick mark(selected). But it's just not working!! :(:confused:

Any ideas please on how to resolve this????

Another thing is, when I receive message in my phone, it just makes sound, it doen't light on the screen!!! is this how it has been designed or is it some 'special' feature in my phone alone??

Message tone is changing inside messages->left button->settings

If you want screen to light up or tons of other features I recommend handcent or go sms from market!

What is handcent \ go sms ??? What shud I be doing?

About market, you have little icon shaped like shopping bag with little android logo on it - that's called mrket. There you have all kinds of cool applications like handcent and go sms :)

i don't really understand the message tone is changing then left button then setting. . . sorry. . . could you re explain :]

1. Go to messages
2. press the left hardware button (menu) -> the one with 4 little sqares
3. enter the settings menu that just appeared on the screen (right button)
From here you're on your own!
 
my fiance is having the same problems on an x8 she got today, when i go to

messaging / menu button all i get is the option to "delete several"....

It has handcent and it works great just cant disable stock message program, and is it possible to move the handcent icon into its place....

had the HTC hero before this, and this seems a step backwards in terms of functionability...

It sounds like you are still on 1.6 firmware. You could try PC Companion to see if the 2.1 update is available in your area, however in the meantime I think (from the depths of my very dodgy memory) that you need Settings>Sony Ericsson>Messaging and you can turn the notification for the stock app off there.
 
Yes. Try updating to latest baseband and firmware and try again. Use PC Companion and SEUS from the official SE site and report back! ;-)
