Issue:

I purchased my Desire as an unlocked phone - pretty sure it's either European or straight from Japan. Normally I'm on the US T-Mobile network.

(This may or may not be relevant but my phone is S-OFF but I don't think it's rooted; Unrevoked failed. I do have a custom recovery but the stock ROM)

Right now I'm in the UK. Now, I've used this phone on my US T-Mobile card with no problems (if outrageous fees), so I was surprised when it would mostly not get a signal. It did for a few hours once, though.

Therefore, I'm trying to swap out my SIM card so I can use my phone here but I'm still receiving "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network". I have tried two different networks - currently I'm working with an Orange card. After some research I saw that this could be a problem with the network mode. I tried changing the network mode in settings, but it stubbornly stays on GSM/WCDMA Auto. Next. I typed in #*#4636#*#*, clicked on Phone Information and tried to change it there. It stays on WDCMA Preferred, unless I click "unknown". All other settings are ignored.

I specifically purchased a SIM based phone for the ability to swap cards out when I travel, so this is particularly annoying. Any help appreciated.

It's apparently the SIM that's forcing the network mode, which is moot anyway because that's not my problem.

My problem is that someone here in the UK made a mistake and entered my phone's IMEI into the country's blacklist. I know it's a mistake because this phone has never been in the UK, and was purchased through Newegg.com, a reputable company. It's not like I bought it from Ebay.

Anyway, if anyone knows the process to prove an IMEI was entered into the UK's blacklist in error, please - I need help. I've talked to four different phone companies today and only got a lot of "it's not blocked in our system" which I think is a lie, since that's what T-Mobile says yet I can't use their network.. or "someone else blocked you, we cannot help"

Any help appreciated!
