Root unable to connect

jerkard

Newbie
We have 2 Optimus V's. One is rooted (rooted only, did not change ROM), and the other is not. The rooted phone was rooted several months ago and has been working fine. Now, telephone and text works, but everything else does not connect. Mobile data is on and 3G is at top of screen with 3 or 4 bars of signal. When I go to email, it stays on loading. When I go to Google Play Store, it tries to load and give me a timed out message. When I search anything on Google, or type in a web site on browser, it changes and takes me to the Virgin mobile site. The non rooted phone is working fine, so it is not a signal problem from the tower. I have taken out the battery and restarted. No help. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix this?
Thanks
Jerry

Have you tried using the activate app. It's red with SSA on it. You might have to run it a couple of times.

If that doesn't work let us know. We'll slice the balogna a little thicker.

I tried activate 2 times. Both times it connected and said activation was successful. Restarted phone. Nothing changed

You might have to install a custom ROM or Update to the ZV 9 update (returns phone to a totally un-rooted stock state with the ZV 9 radio ).
I'm figuring you did't install a custom recovery yet, and make a backup of your stock ROM to fall back on in case something happened, which it did (happens even to the best of us).

Now that your stock ROM is messed up you can't make a good backup of it, so a custom ROM or the ZV 9 update is the only two optlons available.

WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FACTORY RESET A ROOTED PHONE, IT WILL BRICK IT!

I can help you with either option you decide on.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would like to research both options you listed so I can ask more informed questions. The one question I have now: Is there a particular custom ROM you would recommend? Thanks again

I downloader the 2 ROMS to my computer. I'm still unsure how to proceed with the next step. It looks like I have to install a recovery software in order to flash the ROM. Can I do all of this from the PC to phone as I cannot access the app market on the phone. Is there a preferred recovery software? What steps should I leave out (I know not to factory reset)? This part seemed confusing to me when I rooted the phone. That is why I did not proceed then. It is still confusing now.

Look in the All Things Root Guide sticky ^

You will see a guide on how to flash/install a flash_image, recovery, and ROM.

I got the Bumblebee resurrected installed. I tried activation twice. Same problem as stock ROM. Phone and text work. If I try to go to a website in browser, it takes me to virgin mobile site. Market and email say can't connect to server.
It is starting to look like the phone itself is broken.
Would you recommend trying the ZV 9 update?

It has been an interesting couple of days but the phone is now working. After I installed the Bumblebee Resurrected ROM with no results, I followed the ZV9 update instructions and ended up with an unrooted phone. I called Virgin Mobile ( I did not want to contact them with the phone rooted ). They filxed the problem which they said was some sort of looping issue they could correct on their end.
Now I think I will continue with Petra's guide to root with the zv9 radio.
Thank you for your support. You pointed me in the right direction, and I have learned a lot about rooting, recovering and installing ROMs.
Thanks again to you and all those that make this site awesome.
