Help Unable to Mount USB Storage

Hi everyone, first post here because I've looked around many places and can't really seem to find a solution other than factory reset.

Problem: So I recently updated my Samsung galaxy S2 to Jelly Bean when T-Mobile finally released the update. Phone has been working fine, other than some lag. However, this morning something went wrong. I was not able to access my gallery app or my camera app.

When I click on my gallery app it says "Not enough space. Delete unnecessary items, etc." I'm quite sure I have enough space, but I could be wrong. Camera app says "Turn off USB Storage before using camera."

At first I thought there was something wrong with the SD card but I was able to connect to my laptop via usb cord and see the files in the SD card and realized my SD card is fine and my USB internal storage is messed up. I couldn't see many files that I was able to before.

I went into settings>storage and scrolled down to see my list of items under USB storage was gone and only applications was listed. I can see the option "Mount SD Storage" but not "Format SD Storage." When I click it, the status bar on top displays "Preparing USB Storage" and the list appears with Applications, Pictures, Audio, etc and shows that they are calculating and suddenly it all disappears.

Sorry if this is too long to read but I just want to be as detailed as possible. I want to avoid factory reset unless it is the very last resort, since I have some pictures I haven't backed up to my laptop. I also read that factory reset doesn't delete internal memory but there are also other cases that it did a complete wipe. I also tried wipe cache partition which did nothing (I don't know if that was suppose to do anything, just thought I'd try). I just want to see if there is any other options out there that can fix it. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I must have missed this but when I connect my phone to the laptop via USB cord and hit "Turn on USB Storage" it says "No memory card found."

Okay. If you already did that I have to assume that you already pulled the card out and reinserted it. I'm at a loss on this one. I had no issues when I did my upgrade with Kies.

I am guessing it is some bug that some people who are unlucky get. haha. My brother's phone is completely fine after the update as well. Thanks for helping!

Welcome to AF lopopo. :wavey:

Often times a factory reset is needed to clear up bugs after an update. If you're experiencing lag and storage problems, I think that would be your best bet. A factory reset won't delete your internal storage and pictures.

On a factory reset, I was told by the T-Mobile rep to uncheck back up my data as well as uncheck automatic restore. I, too, cannot located over 1k photos since Jelly Bean update. Please help oh wise tech gurus. Thanks.
