Root unable to remove stock apps

Hey everyone,

So I got an htc desire last week and rooted it using the unrevocked3 method. I confirmed that i have root with the help of an app named root check. I then downloaded an app called uninstaller for root that is supposedly able to uninstall system apps, but when i try to uninstall any, it tells me "cannot uninstall, an error occured". If anyone can help me out with that, i would really appreciate it.

You need to be S-OFF (a sort of super-root) in order to delete a system app when the phone is switched on regardless of the app used. It's a htc thing so the app just won't work as you expect it to.

You need to either get S-OFF (no doubt in SUroot's FAQs) or use ADB to delete the files when in recovery mode. 3rd option is to flash a new rom but to delete the files when they are still in the zip on your PC.

PS Why are you deleteing? You realise you don't get to use the space don't you?

Click my name, go to statistics, all threads created by SUroot. Close to the top of that list is a comprehensive adb guide. Called how to easily remove system apps.

Thanks SUroot, I followed the guide you posted but i have a problem. when in recovery mode when i choose mount /system it says Error mounting SYSTEM:!, any idea why i am getting that?

You could try and type "mount /system" and press enter in the cmd window AFTER the adb shell line

Thanks for the reply, I thought of doing it from my computer.. I will need to read about the rules files first though since i am running linux.. Thanks for the help :)

Yes you have to run in recovery from a comp. Only way as the security flag in radio nvram prevents changes to system whilst android is running
