Help Unable to send or receive picture messages

Hi, this is not actually my problem but my friend's son is unable to send or receive picture messages on his Wildfire

apparently it tries to send and then he just gets the message

unable to send message... retrying..

generic network failure..

I don't have the phone on me so am limited to what I can check, but any advice would be appreciated

Settings>Wireless and networks>Mobile networks>Apn settings. Compare these with the carrier.
