Help Unable to send text

Wild guess - the phone hasn't got the settings applied for your network (like the SMS Message Centre that's required to send SMS) - which network is it? There should be some way of them sending the settings to you to get you up & running (quite possibly in the network's own help pages on their own website)

I was wondering if your carrier's APN setting was entered correctly? Can you make calls?
