Help Unable to sign into Play

When I try to access Google Play on my Ascend G300 it asks me to create an account with a google email address.

I have a Google account and can access Play both on my PC and my Xoom using a non-Google email address. I can access the Google app store via my browser on my G300 using the same non-Google email address but not the app store via the Play widget.

Any helpful suggestions?

I'd suggest making up a gmail.com address and using that as your account for Play and see how that goes.
