Help Unable to update apps

I'd be grateful for any help with a problem I'm having being unable to update several apps that I downloaded from the Market. I tried to uninstall Google Earth to clear some memory (a trick that worked when I was low on internal memory) but it won't do the uninstall either. I successfully installed and uninstalled a new app as a test. When I try updating it does the downloading OK but when it tries to install it fails and I get the message in the notification bar (eg for Blast Monkeys)
> Installing Blast MonkeysUpdate of "APPNAME" unsuccessful <
Internal phone memory is 29.25mb
Unrooted HTC Desire on Orange bought from CPW
Android 2.2 Software 2.29.405.5
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi
I've managed to get the apps to update by moving them from the SD card to the phone memory, updating and then moving the app back to the SD card, though it's still having trouble managing large files like Angry Birds. They run Ok from the card and so does my music so it's not as though the card is lock or the phone can't access it. Any Ideas? Anyone? Please?

got the same problem myself. been through all the online solutions from rebooting to deleting the android_secure folder on the sd card. (doesn't seem to delete anyway) but still have the problem.

any ideas out there???

Hi. Found this solution on the HTC Thunderbolt forum posted by **trapperjohn** which worked for me:

Turn off the phone remove the sdcard and insert it into your pc,laptop, mac sdcard reader slot. (Can also be done by connecting phone via USB as a drive)

Browse to the card on your computer and look for this directory .android_secure notice the period before the android.
If you do not see the directory then you need to allow your file manager on your pc to show hidden files since it is hidden by default.
Now in the directory look for only this file smdl2tmp1.asec
!!!This file needs to be deleted!!!
After deleting only that file place the sdcard back into your phone and now all apps are still there and you can now update any of them :)

Hope this helps and all praise to trapperjohn
