Help Unauthorised Access

Volcanos

Lurker
Hi

Every time when I clear memory I got this warning, "Unauthorised access to a second area has been blocked. Tap here for more info."

What the reason could be?

Phone: Samsung Mini S4 I9190

Welcome to AF, @Volcanos.

Which specific RAM manager app are you speaking about (there's quite a few in the Play Store)?

Do you have a specific need or reason you're using that particular app?

Since getting my first Android device in November of 2009, rooting all of them, I have yet to find a need or actually use a "RAM manager".

Yes, I'm sure there are indeed specific individual cases / instances where tweaking a parameter might be useful, but for the most part doing anything other than letting Android (and the underlying Linux kernel) handle memory management for you is not fruitful and is usually counterproductive and detrimental to performance.

Thanks

I don't use any app, just the one comes with Android.

Hmm, I wonder if that's an add-on by Samsung or your carrier? (I hope it's not the Cheetah Mobile "clean master" snake oil that we've seen)

Honestly, Android/Linux will do what is listed by that screen you posted automatically and is not really necessary for a user to do/touch.

What do you see when you "...Tap here for more info."?

Well, that link goes to nowhere (thanks, Samsung :p).

Is this basically what you're seeing?

That's a snapshot taken from this video:

I'm guessing the above video is showing the same method you used to get to the Clear Memory option, yes?

If so, everything in that video reinforces what I said above: you don't need to do ANY of that--Android will automatically take care of that for you; killing processes and "clearing RAM" does NOTHING except make your device slower (note where the above screenshots says: "If you clear the memory manually, applications may take longer to open.").

Really.

Yeah it's a Samsung thing, long press on the Home button and the RAM manager is one of the options.

Every time when I clear memory I got this warning, "Unauthorised access to a second area has been blocked. Tap here for more info."
That message is tied to Samsung's very creepy Knox. Originally marketed as 'corporate security' feature, Knox also morphed into Samsung's way to hamper consumers from minimizing Samsung oversight on our phones.

You might want to try restarting your Mini S4 into its Recovery Mode and then clear the system cache partition. The system cache is different than your app caches and it's stored in its own partition separate from where your personal data and apps are stored so this won't affect your stuff.

But as @scary alien wrote, stop clearing your RAM. That's basically a step to take when you're having a specific problem, not a regular maintenance thing. Android's memory management is pretty sophisticated, the more you interfere with it the harder it has to work to compensate.
