Root Underclock my rom? (Midnight 5.2)

Evening,

I've run the Midnight 5.2 rom for a while now and I've noticed periodically my phone runs really hot. Even when I'm not really doing anything and have everything ended from my task manager. Charging (only sometimes) it gets hot sometimes as well.

I put it off for a while with just some minor concern but now I'd like to take steps to cure it.

I thought maybe it had to do with how much Midnight rom overclocks the cpu? (I think to like 1200?) I was wondering if I could tone it down somehow, if that rom would be okay with that and what suggested program to use. I know on the marketplace theres a lot but not all work with every phone.

You can certainly underclock your phone. There are camps that swear by Voltage Control while others like SetCPU. I personally use SetCPU because it allows the use of profiles, like drastic underclocking when the screen is off, battery reaches a certain level, etc. Midnight 5.2 came with the OC Bonsai Kernel v4.0.1, which is a really solid kernel; of course, every phone reacts differently.
If you like the speed and are worried about the heat, Genocide and Vision are great options.
You should also notice an increase in battery life when underclocking with profiles, so that's a plus. It's usually good practice to not set the screen off or minimum values below 200 to avoid wake-lock issues.
