Uninstall friend stream?

Is there a way to uninstall HTC "friend stream?" I may have set it up originally, but I have no use for it- all I use is facebook (and I prefer the fb app). Uninstaller doesn't work, and it gets around task killers by auto-rebooting....
 
not without rooting... and not sure if that's possible then or not. I've never rooted an Android phone (yet)
 
I gave friendstream a try last night and then deleted myself from it as well. But for some reason now when I push the phone button on the home screen random facebook contacts are added above the numeric keypad. Any idea how to delete them? I have like 600 friends and for some reason the people who have phone numbers and names begin with C and D are now in there.
