Help Uninstall Google Play?

Mehta23

Android Expert
Just wanted to know if I can revert back to stock market? Especially after reading this :
Oh —and don’t try forcing the update by “uninstalling updates” from the Google Play app on your unrooted device. A derp friend of mine did just that, and ended up uninstalling the entire Market app from his phone.

Yeah

You could find an apk of the old market (3.4.4 for example) but I think it will just automatically update it back to Google Play, so I think you are stuck with it. Although to be honest there is basically no difference between the two asides from the name

Personally I don't believe it would be worth the trouble of uninstalling and finding the older version since basically they are the same. Also by doing so you might not get the newest updates or Apps available on the older version. Additionaly if you were successful in doing this, Google may just force download the Google Play app as they did on my device and many others as I have learned! At any rate, best of luck on the outcome!

When I say the old one, I mean the really old one with the green header, like version 3 or something

That's version 2.X I believe, 3.0 onwards is the style we have at the moment.

It is apparently possible, but you could well run into comparability issues with it as your version becomes more and more out of date.

"... what's wrong with the new one?.."

Uses too much memory, which I can ill afford; low memory warning keeps kicking now Google Play uses 7.12MB.

Maybe ok later when I get a new phone but until then I need to manage memory closely.

I've never had an issue in running the market Google Play on my DHD - how many apps do you have on your phone?

Low memory on a DHD? What ARE you running?

Sorry should have said am using Desire not Desire HD. Answered this thread because of the question"... what's wrong with the new one?.."

However Google Play still keeps putting me over the low warning limit; does not matter how many apps I have and I am aware of what they use but Play uses more than Market. Before Play I could control apps memory; deleting if necessary.

If you do install an older version of Market you can stop it from automatically updating by freezing the Market updater with Titanium Backup. If you're having trouble installing the older market, you could try replacing the new version with the old in the system apps folder with an app like ES File Explorer. Full instructions can be found on the net, if needed.

While I understand that this could be a way to keep the old market, I would worry about possible compatibility issues as Xyro said...
