Help uninstall twidroyd?

hi, i'm new here, and to the android phone, happy to say I'm pretty good with gadgets, as i do a lot of computer repair and hold an HVAC/R license....

Problem I'm having today with my nice little Optimus V, (love the phone and the price) is Twidroyd... I can't seem to make it go away, i don't want to root my phone just yet, and am wondering how to get rid of it. Why in the world would anyone put this thing on their phone when they see that it can access the following on your phone:

!! Your messages
reads email attachments

!! Your location
Coarse (network based) location, Fine (GPS) location

!! Network Communication
full internet access

!! Storage
modify/delete SD card contents

!! Phone calls
read phone state and identity

!! System Tools
prevent phone from sleeping

This occured to me yesterday when i couldn't uninstall it... My battery life sucks, this app robs my internet, keeps my phone on, and logs my information. I don't, nor do i wish to have a twitter account, i really don't think anyone cares if i'm drinking a mountain dew while debating on going to the craper.... That this app by itself could be causing some of the problems people are having with dropped internet and bad battery life on the Optimus V, that I've been reading so much about, not to mention that people can't even use the pre-installed version anyways, because there are so many bugs....

Can some one help me uninstall this app before it drives me crazy? I force stop, and try to block it but end up blocking everything else. It was pre-installed on the phone, and after i force stop i notice in about 10 minutes it's already back to logging info. please help me get rid of it the right way, as i don't want to root this thing just yet...

I haven't thought of this yet, but if i go ahead and update it in the app store, it might allow me to uninstall it...
will post back and let ya'll know.

Nope, it only uninstalled the updates.... i saw that the update added the ability to control the wifi.... I don't like having something control my phone when i'm not using it...

Welcome to the Android Forums!

I may be mistaken but I believe Twidroyd was factory installed on the Optimus V. If so then the only way to remove it will be to root the phone.

yeah i tried a few advanced uninstallers today and one of them said that.... I really didn't want to start messing with this phone's OS until i had it a while...

I'm also having the same issue. I am a first time Android phone owner, and was dismayed to find that I couldn't delete this app. I much prefer the Twitter app to the Twidroyd crapp, as I'm so used to using their excellent iPad version.

I keep hearing talk of "rooting" the phone to delete it, but am weary of that, as I'm worried this is one of those things that gets your account canceled. I thought I'd check to see if by now anyone had come up with another way to get rid of the bloatware.

I otherwise love the phone, but am going to get seriously tired of scrolling past Twidroyd every time I want to use the Twitter app.

I'm still hesitant to do so because 1: I'm basically computer illiterate lol and 2: with said illiteracy, I'd be the dumb*** to do something wrong and brick my phone. And with me being a po' folk and all I can't easily afford another phone

I too want to get rid of this useless app as I have no interest in using Twitter. Ever. I have the phone already but have not activated it yet as I'm still burning through my T-Mobile prepaid minutes - just planning ahead.

So is there a way to get rid of this app? I really don't want to root my phone, partly because I don't know what that means and second because I don't want to mess around with it because I don't know what I'm doing.

Is there a "safe" way to remove the app and other useless ones that come pre-installed?

Rooting a android smartphone is pretty safe and easy to do superoneclick is the easiest to use.what makes it a risky thing is if you delete Google apps, and some factory apps, google search what factory Apps are safe or not to uninstall twitteroyd can be safely removed i got rid of it,

Yeah I feel the same except knowing my luck I'd screw up my phone even though rooting is apparently very easy. I don't have any issues with my phone aside from the bloatware crap I dont use lol. I would like to run the 2.3 rom but see above about me screwing up my phone -_-'
I've thought about trying to bribe sprint people to do it for me lol...ah, if only

I do that currently, although every now and then it restarts somehow even if I don't reboot. I guess its really not a problem, it just annoys me knowing that it may have started again

Twidroyd wasn't working for me, so I updated it today, and it worked. Downside was it seemed to use up almost another 5 MB of main memory, so I had to uninstall the update immediately, and I got back the memory space.

For those on a tight memory budget (like me), twicca (beta) is installable on the SD. I can't comment on how good it is, because it's my first real Twitter client.

Just to confirm... one of the other posts I just read said that Twidroyd is actually NOT taking up space in the user available memory partition, that it's actually elsewhere, and that deleting it won't free up any usable space.

I was contemplating rooting the phone to get rid of Twidroyd (which I never use) and other preinstalled apps (since even after moving everything to the SD card that I can, I frequently get a "low space" message on the phone), but if deleting it won't actually free up any space, would rather NOT root the phone if I don't really need to.

Of course, I could just delete TapTap4, which apparently WON'T work from the SD card and is taking up quite a bit of space, but having too much fun with that one. :D

Twidroyd (and the other factory installed apps) are installed in the system partition, not the user accessible partition. Deleting them will not free up user accessible memory.

Gaining useable memory would involve re-partitioning the phone's memory.

On the one hand, that stinks, since it's hogging up space that could be used for something better. On the other hand, no need to try and root my phone then, at least not yet. Maybe once it's older and I'm more willing to tinker with the behind the scenes stuff. But only had it a month, still too new for that. :)

I don't want to delete pre-installed things for space but rather I'm afraid they will add to the battery drain by being there, even though I won't be using it.
