Root Unique Rooting Request

rlister39

Newbie
I have my Evo rooted with Unrevoked and the simple stock rom.

I am a unique user of the Evo. Why ? Because I am deaf. I do not use the "Phone" function of the Evo at all, only text messaging.

I have no idea if there is any ROMS out there that would utilize completely turning off the phone portion. I know that would probably be counter productive, because most of the people who have Evo's can also hear and use the phone.

The reason I would like to see a ROM for this is to increase battery life. I currently go about 24-27 hours on the stock battery and a full charge. My Evo typically is powered off at 11pm and put on a wall charger until about 6-7am. When I wake up, I power it on, take it off the charger, put it back on the charger and let it charge back to 100%. After this, I can go up to 24-27 hours if I need to, using the EVO all day with Emailing, FB, texting (100-200).

Any thoughts ? Keep up the great work you all do !

You seem to be getting pretty good battery life as it is..
If you havent flashed a new kernel, i think you would be able to get a little more with a custom kernel. Netarchy kernels have worked wonderful for me and many others.
Dont forget to make a nandroid backup before you go about making any changes.

If you want to try a new rom, myns is very smooth and most people here like it.
Ive been using it for quite some time.

By the way, since you text a lot, i have a couple friends that have yahoo messenger on their phone. So i use yahoo messenger to talk to the ones that i text the most.

If you are on wifi, i think using yahoo messenger is a great battery saver, because that data will go through the wifi, and not use your radios.

So if you find a way to use an app like yahoo messenger (or any other instant messaging app) it may be a little battery saver for you.

Thanks for the replies ! I know I am getting pretty good battery life. It just peaked my curiosity if it is possible to turn off the "phone" function.

I don't know if it is possible to turn off the phone applications themselves, but 3G uses the same radio the phone, so if you turn it off you won't have 3G access.

You could probably use Titanium backup to freeze and remove the phone.apk and dialer.apk if you really wanted to. I doubt that would affect the 3g that the internet uses.
