Help unique samsung vibrant to gmail sync issue

akular1

Newbie
Hi everyone

I know that there have been issues with the Samsung vibrant and gmail sync issues. My concern is that I do have all of my contacts coming across from gmail, but when I add a new contact into the phone, I am not able to have the option of syncing it with my gmail. I have been going into notes....typing it in there and then going to my computer and adding the contact in afterwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Andy

I initially added all my contacts by using Gmail with my PC because I prefer typing on a full size keyboard. Syncing is fast and easy from Gmail to Vibrant.

To test the Vibrant to Gmail syncing for you I just entered a new contact on the Vibrant and then logged into my Gmail account and the new contact was there within seconds.

I entered the contact as a "new contact" under contacts.

hi there,

not sure why, but it doesnt work there for me when adding a new contact. I also recently upgraded to 2.2 thinking it would be resolved. I also am not able to manually change the contact to a google contact so that it may appear that way also. Not sure what to do

Hi there

Thanks for your email. I am able to from gmail to the vibrant. That's what I've been doing to make sure that my contacts are able to sync through this work around. But anything that I input through the vibrant phone does not sync with my gmail. There is also no category that I can press to have the vibrant sync through with gmail when I am adding a contact. Any help?

Thanks again
Andy

There is an option. You can save contacts to Phone, SIM or Gmail. It sounds like you have it set to something other than Gmail.

Mine defaults to Gmail. When I open a new contact, my Gmail addy is at the top pof the screen to let me know that's where is saving. What's at the top of your screen when you start a new contact?

Contacts/Settings/More/Settings/ Save New Contacts To

Hello
I had the same problem and I found the answer at another forum.

There is an easy way to transfer the contacts from the phone to Gmail:

1. Open Contacts on your Galaxy S.
2. Menu -> More -> Import/Export -> Export to SD.
3. Menu -> More -> Import/Export -> Import from SD.
4. Choose to import contacts to your GMAIL account (this is the very important step!)
5. Wait until your phone has synced.
6. Open Gmail, go to your Contacts -> More Actions -> Find and Merge Duplicates
7. Wait and your phone will resync. (Optionally, go into Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Uncheck and Check Sync Contacts to force resync)

From now on when you create a contact, just remember to create it for your Google account and not your Phone!

This method does create a .vcf file of your contact list on the SD but that can be deleted with the My Files app.

Good luck!
