unknown notification icon HALP <3

Ok so I have a Droid Incredible running on standard Android version 1.22 and I have an unknown notification in my status bar. When I pull down the notifications menu it doesn't display any informaiton about it.

It looks like an ear connected by a wire. (Possibly a wired microphone??)

Anyway, the built in microphone works... I have no idea how to turn this off. It is NOT bluetooth, headphones, wireless headphones... etc... I don't think it's anything related to GPS or syncing.

COULD IT BE A TAP? o.O It's making me a little paranoid because it totally looks like an ear... like perhaps my phone is telling me that someone else is listening in on my activity.

Anyway I hard reset my phone and it was STILL THERE. So I'm a little creeped out. Anyone know WHAT it is or why it's there? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try to restart your phone? If you did and it is still there, it sounds like your mic was shorted (moisture, sudden jolt cause a solder joint to come loose, etc). If it is moisture, it could be temporary. I am pretty sure that is a wired mic icon; if not, then I do not know.

It is not a tap. Of course, I cannot be certain (have you engaged in any terroristic or drug related activities lately? :p ), but I am thinking anyone who would tap a phone would be able to do it without setting off the very basic mic in indicator. It is probably a short.

EDIT: Read above--I thought you said earphone by wire, not ear. If it is an ear, it is definitely hearing aid.

I remember a similar question a while back. I think it was determined to be something to do with hearing aid compatibility.

Edit - Too slow

Hhahaha, wow. I feel like a noob. YES it was hearing aid. Wow that makes me feel better turning that off. Thanks for the speedy replies. :D
