"unlimited bandwidth" is really limited

Wow .. just re-checked my account.

My Usage: 9,608.83 KB

This is as of 7:30am PST this morning .... Google Listen reallllllllly downloaded a lot.

Gonna call VZW this afternoon to make sure we are cool and note on my account the crazy bandwidth was a mistake so it may be noted.

Switched to only download automatically on wifi.

That's still only ~9MB, You're not anywhere near the 5 GB limit.

Just as an FYI. All carriers, including your home broadband, subscribe to what they call "Fair Use." If you read the fine print of any of those contracts, you'll see something referencing it. In layman's terms, if the carrier feels you've exceeded a certain quota of bandwidth, whether it be by the month or by the day, they will begin to throttle back the available bandwidth to you, i.e., you'll slow down to less than dial-up speed (56k) making just surfing the net unbearable.

You're right ... wtf. I don't know why I was seeing MB there in my head.

Only issue is, i know i've downloaded at least 300MB in podcast OTA when driving .. hmm .. oh well, i won't worry about it. I only hit 3GB on sprint last month when i was testing the hero with the same apps going.

54,691kb since Saturday afternoon and I still barely know how to use the phone.
That's about what I'm at since Friday when I picked up my phone.
For all you people worrying, you can use about 150MB ( that's 150,000KB) per day and not go over your 5GB per month limit. That should be more than enough for 95% of the people.

For now, 90% of my data usage is while in my house, which uses my WiFi network. I am wondering, however, what my usage will be when I start streaming audio over 3g for 3 hours a day.

I contacted a verizon rep, didn't ask his role title, on another forum and he assured me not to worry unless I am tethering.

From VZW

Data Plans and Features: Prohibited Uses. You may not use our Data Plans and Features for illegal purposes or purposes that infringe upon others’ intellectual property rights, or in a manner that interferes with other users’ service, interferes with the network’s ability to fairly allocate capacity among users, or that otherwise degrades service quality for other users.

Take that in any way you may, but just know that if you are bogging down the network with extreme amounts of data usage you will have some trouble.

take a look at this vzw bill. I'd say unlimited and the 5gb cap is loosely enforced.

PPCGeeks

edit: probably have to have a ppcgeeks login but it shows a bill and 47,773,612 kb without any extra charges

OK... so i decided to check my usage and i already used up 2G...after freaking out (I have been streaming music via PANDORA) I called and spoke to csr by the name (omar) today at 11/9 9:30pm EST... i have unlimited web, email, $29.99 plan .... Not officially and not yet. Unofficially you can already "enable" it. (Officially it's going to reportedly cost an additional $15/month)

I go over 5gb every month regularly. Using Moodio.fm, Slacker and Pandora for 8+ hours everyday on my job racks up a ton of data usage.

It's always been a soft cap of 5gb regardless if it is handset usage or tethering usage. Once you go over the 5gb you have the "chance" of getting your service shut off.

In 2.5 years working for Verizon, I have never had someone go over on just phone usage, tethering is another story.
