unlimited data plan???

I got grandfathered in.
She had to change from a Blackberry unlimited plan to an Exchange unlimited plan.
I don't know what the company is paying for the plan.

Well I bought my phone from LetsTalk.com and those bastards forced me to put the 2gb plan on my phone when it was activated. So with a simple call to att customer service I was able to get the unlimited back on as I had an iphone 3g before that.

So folks beware if you are upgrading at Letstalk.com and you have the unlimited smartphone plan they will force you to be on the 2gb plan. You should just call ATT and have them put you back on the unlimited.

The kicker is letstalk.com tells you to go through them for changes. I said screw it and called ATT because I have a General Motors plan.

apparently it is possible because an ATT manager did it for me. ill take a screen shot of my next billing cycle and prove it to you.

i hope this info clears up a lot of confusion regarding this matter. good luck with your purchases everyone!:D

If you didn't have a Unlimited Smartphone Data plan proir to the day they released the new plans, then you aren't going to have one ever.

However If you did have an Unlimited Smartphone Data plan and it was removed accidentally or otherwise changed without your intention, then a internal case can be submitted to have that data plan returned. Ive seen it done time and time again. I do not believe a Manager can return your unl. smartphone data plan though.

A screenshot isn't going to prove anything. You could have had Unlimited Smartphone Data all along.

Any AT&T 'manager' who adds that plan is risking their job, btw. I've been trying for over a month to get Unlimited back on my girlfriends line after she bought an iPhone 4. I've been kicked way up the ladder and they tell me it can't be done.

So, I hope everyone isn't disappointed that it won't be available anymore.

why would i lie about this? i have no reason to. its up to you if you want to believe me or not, but im just telling everyone my story. it seems that you work for AT&T or some other phone carrier based on some of your posts i read. if you do, id suggest you talk to some of the higher ups and get more info from them.

according to the AT&T reps, i never had the unlimited smart phone data plan, but was able to have a manager apply it to my account. i told him that i was misinformed about the unlimited smartphone data plan when i first signed up for it, and that i was never given any information about the unlimited smart phone data plan and the unlimited non smart phone data plan. i also said that ive been with AT&T since they've been cingular and that should account for something since ive been a long time customer. it took a lot of calls and submitted cases, but i was finally able to get what i wanted.

i was also able to keep the unlimited data plan from my blackberry - but i'm going to keep an eye on my data and see how much i actually use. i'm thinking while its great to have the option, 2Gb's might be enough....? how much are you guys actually using per month?

I had to go through that when I got my captivate.
Friday: Went to kiosk in the mall, told them I want the phone but ONLY if I keep my unlimited data from my Blackjack 2. He said sure, started activating the new phone, then told me I had to switch to the limited plan. After he spoke with customer care for an hour, he still said I wouldn't keep my plan with the new phone. I said forget it, I'll keep my black jack, just make sure I still have my unlimited, he said yeah sure.

Saturday: I open up my phone net to check my e-mail, and I get a message saying that I will be charged per minute for data usage.
OH. HELL. NO.
So I called customer service myself, they put me back on my unlimited plan. The customer service rep told me there was an issue with my black jack on the wrong plan, that I was getting unlimited data without actually paying for it  At this point I'm considering switching to Verizon, so the customer service rep told me to go back to an att store and speak with the manager, and have them call customer service, this way I'll get my captivate and stay on my unlimited plan.

Get to the store, and after about an hour waiting for the sales rep to talk customer care into giving me my plan, I finally got the unlimited with the captivate.

So yes, it is possible to still be added to the unlimited plan under special circumstances (if two idiots in a mall kiosk take you off the plan by mistake).

hello all. i need to get some info from you guys. to all who had the unlimited data plan w/ ATT before purchasing this phone, were you all able be grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan or were you forced to take on the new data plan which is limited? ive spoken to several ATT reps and was given mixed information regarding this matter. unfortunately i had to take on the new limited data plan with 2GBs. please give me your comments and insights. thanks guys and gals!

You can DEFINITELY keep your unlimited plan...You'll always get mixed information when you talk to different AT&T reps (about any issue). I've changed from a Blackberry to Windows Mobile, back to Blackberry and then to Android. And I've kept my unlimited plan for each device. If you get ready to make a device change and the rep tries to say you have to pick a new data plan, DON'T DO IT. Just hold off and get another AT&T rep. Once you pick a tiered data plan, you can't go back.

Lol. yep, pretty much.

I called last week after getting the phone, and the person I talked to told me I couldn't keep my unlimited. I told her that I would just keep using my iphone. Called back today, and talked to someone else. He told me I could keep it, got my IMEI, and switched it over. I guess it just depends on who you talk to.

I also came from the Blackberry Bold 9000 and had the BIS unlimited data plan for the past 5 years with various Blackberry phones. I switched to the Captivate Friday July 23 at one of the Corporate stores and sales rep said I could keep my unlimited plan well on Sunday July 25 I received a text message for AT&T telling me that my smart-phone had been activated and if I didn't have a data plan one would be added to may account. I checked on my online account and sure enough AT&T had changed my unlimited plan to the 500mb plan. I tried explaining it to AT&T Business Care Customer Service and to no avail. CS does not know what the left or right hand is doing.

Ohhh, that sucks. If I were you, I'd keep working to get my data plan back! I'd go to a corporate store and inform them of what happened....That would make me soo angry, I would stop at nothing to get my unlimited back lol, especially since it was a mistake!

update*

i was able to get an ATT rep to change me back to the unlimited data plan. i did it by lying to a rep telling her that i was using a nokia n97 and giving her the imei number from that phone. unfortunately ATT caught on and changed me back to the 2gb plan. i got a couple of text messages from ATT at 3am in the morning saying that my phone needed a data plan and that they made the changes automatically. i called ATT and tried to have them put me back on the unlimited plan, but they said they couldnt grandfather me in since i wasnt on a "smart phone" unlimited data plan previous to owning the captivate. i didnt even know that there were 2 kinds of unlimited data plans. apparently i was on a non smart phone unlimited plan and that doesnt count toward being grandfathered in to the smart phone unlimited data plan.

so i guess im stuck with the 2gb plan WHICH SUCKS BALLS!!! aghhh!
I was in the same situation as you - basically I had the unlimited MediaNet plan for non-smart phones.

I did manage to get them to add the unlimited data smartphone plan but it took incredible tenacity and a (sincere) threat to switch to another carrier that still offered unlimited data. (it might have also helped that I'm a long-term legacy customer who bundles DSL and a home phone, so I'm worth about $200 a month to them.)

My argument was that if I had known that "non-smart" plans were not going to be grandfathered, I would have upgraded to a smartphone plan (which cost the same) before the limits kicked in, since the ONLY reason I signed up for a data plan was to be grandfathered. But I had to make that argument several times, to several different people, and show no signs of being willing to hang up the phone until someone said "yes."
