Root unlock bootloader

But will it be for an old device like the Desire? I'd read that the Sensation was going to be first.

Anyway, apart from HBOOT 1.02 (which comes with the official Gingerbread RUU) all other Desire bootloaders have been cracked. So I'm not sure it will make much difference to us.
 
It may be to work with their new unlocked bootloader policy moving forward. maybe they will be locked to stop fools breaking things, but provide a tools for those more technically inclined to unlock it.
 
what would be the benefits of this guys? I mean what stipulations would htc have then for warranty claims etc if it became easier to "tinker" with the phone?
 
My guess is that the unlocking tool will come with a disclaimer which you have to accept before downloading it (similar to the recent GB RUU). And that disclaimer will say something along the lines of "you do this at your own risk, and if you break something you are on your own", only expressed in more legalistic language.
 
At the moment HTC offers an official but unsupported way to upgrade your phone, which itself prevents you from downgrading back to a supported state. That seems short sighted. At least if they unlocked the bootloader, people could install the supported software again.

I don't think there will be an official tool to do the job just for that reason, S-on is there to protect people from that sort of thing and a good safe guard is to just release the bootloaders. Ensuring that at least some technical knowledge and desire, be required run it.

But there is. well its coming. Its on their htc dev site. Thats what the whole thread is about

just thought you guys might be interested in it,have put a couple of posts on the htc facebook page too about the upgrade or root options,htc responded with if you root your warrent is no good and you will be charged a fee for them to fix,i said but i can install the gb update over the root and have a legit htc rom so surely the gb ruu doesnt void warranty?lol had nno answer back yet....

We always knew rooting voided warranty. If you return to stock with an RUU (2.2 is safer bet) then they cannot tell you were rooted.
 
which was what i was saying to them,if i put the new ruu on then everythings legit even if i have rooted before hand(which i have now,thanks for the guide btw SU worked a treat ;) ) what is the most stable 2.3 rom out atm?
 
Cant say for sense as I dont use it, but I always recommend teppic74's pre-rooted stock roms.

As for ASOP, Redux, CM7, Gingervillain and Oxygen are all stable.
 
I dont know. They turned around on the locking out of bootloaders. I believe this must all be related.
 
Well if you want to know a bit more, HTC have now posted the bootloader unlocker for the Sensation at developer.htc.com. It comes with a full page of disclaimer, which basically can be summed-up by this paragraph:

"Please understand that you will not be able to return your device to the original state and going forward your device may not be held covered under the warranty for all claims resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader. HTC bears no responsibility if your device is no longer usable afterwards."

Speaking personally I classify anyone who uses the the business buzzphrase "going forward" as "a mindless jerk who will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes" :D
 
I do use the phrase "Moving forward" which is tantamount to the same thing.

"moving forward, we need to ensure code like this doesn't make it into production until a support model is in place"

Ok I never said that, but that would be an example of something I may have said 2 years ago, when I got paid to be responsible.

I think my antipathy to it, even over most business buzzwords, was fixed by the number of times I've heard people babble stuff like "in future, going forward...", where it is simply redundant. In fact the sentence above works perfectly well without it.
 
Have you ever played bullshit bingo? I like that. Where you go into a meeting with your selection of buzz words and cross them off throughout the meeting...

Pro actively moving forward as a digital nomad using osmosis marketing strategies; HTC are going to be checking for signed bootloaders?
