Unlock htc Thunderbolt (not root)

Hi All,

This is my first post and wanted to share with you all that I upgraded to TB from DInc today. I need a global phone without a slideout keyboard so I thought I would wait for DInc2 but couldn't help myself after playing with TB and bought it on 1yr contract $239.

Now here is the question is there a way you could unlock the phone so that you could use a different sim card when you are travelling abroad:confused:? I know VZW does not advertise TB as a global phone:cool: but if it uses a sim card there should be a way to unlock it. I don't want to root it because I don't think I can do it.

Thanks :)

You can unlock it... However it will only use the LTE data connection.. So you will have to be in an area that has a LTE network in the 700Mhz range and even then you won't be able to make calls. Unless of course you used some application like Skype.

LTE vendors are working on VoLTE(voice over LTE) so then if there is a provider in the area that allows these calls you will be able to make a call. This is a ways down the road however.

yup, sorry to report that there is only a CDMA radio inside the bolt-not going to work for a world phone. you can unlock it as described above, and you could assign it a 111111 CID so it could be used on other cdma netowkrs(like cricket).

but if you needed a world phone you should have gotten the inc 2.
