Help Unlock Samsung Galaxy S2 to all SIMs from Orange?

Rooting has nothing to do with carrier lock. You'd need the unlock code regardless. If the phone's original contract has been satisfied, there's no reason O2 should not give you the code. If the phone is still under contract, there may be legitimate reasons to unlock the phone such as travelling outside of your carrier's coverage areas and need to use it on another network.

Of course they are under no obligation to give you the code in either case.

First of all, it is with Orange - not O2.

So you are saying that I have to ask for a unlock code? What legitimate reasons are there for this? I can't imagine they would just give it. If they cannot give the code then what are my other options?

A lot of the time you have to pay a fee for it. Just say you use another sim for work as well?

Sorry, saw the "O" and my brain went to autopilot. ;)

Many carriers will allow you to unlock the phone if you are travelling. For example (I'm in the US) when I first took my phone to Europe, I wanted to use a local sim card so not to incur excessive roaming charges. They were reluctant at first, but I assured them that I wasn't cancelling my contract with them and that if I couldn't get the code, I would just pick up a pay-as-you-go phone over there. It was still up to their discretion, but they gave me the code.

Another reason they "might" give you the unlock code would be that you wish to sell the phone to someone on a different network (or you want to list the phone for sale and not limit it only to Orange.)

There are fee-for-service places that claim to be able to provide you with an unlock code, but I have never used one and can't recommend anything that would potentially violate a TOS agreement with Orange (or any other carrier.) I don't know that I would trust a company whose purpose is to do something shady, anyway.

Thanks everyone.
Perhaps I could root the phone, root it and then unroot it while still having the unlock feature there?
Just looking at all my options here before I go paying
