Help unlock screen missing

hi,
ihave an Lg optimus m phone from metro pcs and lately i have discovered that my unlock screen doesn't appear at all..
when it started it used to come on and off whenever it felt like but lately it has disappeared completely... i tried to check my settings with some guidance from some posts online but so far nothing has worked for me... i'm back to having my phone calling people without my knowledge or sometimes i open apps and even downloaded apps without my knowledge...
please help me if u know an app or rather a way to fix my problem

So what happens when you push the power (lock) button?
If you haven't already (sounds like you have), check your screen timeout settings (settings > display > screen timeout) and make sure it's not set to some long amount of time.
Is your phone rooted? I wonder if you didn't accidentally remove/uninstall something. If this is the case you can always do a nandroid restore (hopefully you did a backup at some point).
As far as an app to replace this, you can try WidgetLocker by TeslaCoil Software. It is a lot more customizable than the stock lock screen anyway.
